Nice little town just outside of capital city Bern.
Nice little town just outside of capital city Bern. A train takes you direct. Be careful not to get off at Worb SBB but Worb Dorf, otherwise you will end up like me and having to walk 30mn in complete darkness down a long country road.

Bern is an absolutely must-visit city in Switzerland. Its beautiful UNESCO-listed Old Town is full of history, charming streets, and stunning architecture. The crystal-clear Aare River is perfect for a refreshing swim in the summer, making Bern truly unique. Don't miss visiting Albert Einstein's historic home, where he lived while developing some of his groundbreaking ideas. Bern is a perfect mix of history, culture, and natural beauty—I highly recommend it!

It is a good location if you have a car to explore the Bernese Oberland region and do not mind driving 30-45 minutes. We had an electric car so the location was perfect since it was 10 minutes away from a supercharger.

Bern was a complete surprise.
Bern was a complete surprise. We loved it so much because it is very different to other Swiss cities. Beautiful wide old town with lots of fountains with potable water, great sculptures, safe, easy to find good affordable food or more expensive, cafes & restaurants were good too. Would have loved to spend more time here to explore the "underground" shops & bars.

There is a lot to explore in and around Bern and the city is a very walkable size. As tourists we benefitted from a free travel pass to use trams around the city. The riverside is beautiful and there are free open air swimming pools, as well as actually swimming in the river itself - which looked great fun but a bit scary!
We went up to the Gurten park just outside the city which has fabulous views over Bern and an observation tower from which you can see the Eiger and the Jungfrau in the distance. The food up there was very reasonably priced too!
