Super staff, very helpful. Drove us to airport. 10 minute walk to center of old town, where everyone joins in huge dance party from 7 to 9 pm. Very nice traditional rooms. In floor heating keeps it toasty.

Enjoyable breakfast with a good mix of toast, jam, butter, mushrooms, bananas and bacon plus coffee. Mattress was heated. Room was clean and decorated in a Tibetan style. Location - excellent as it was in the old town. Best of all, the host, Rose, helped us with arranging transportation from /to the train station and advising us of transport to the monastery.

The hotel was thoughtfully designed, from the beautiful lobby, to the led lights that follow you up the stairs, to the beautiful back yard. The rooms had floor heating, and a beautiful plant garden in the middle of the room with sky light. The staff were exceptionally helpful, they anticipated our morning departure and got us breakfast to go without asking. Room was very clean, had mini fridge stocked, humidifiers, oxygen concentrators, laundry. Everything you needed they provided.

Comes with a highly interactive dog. Rooms are big, and if staying on the 2nd floor, comes with a sun roof. Room also comes with oxygen concentrator for people not used to high altitude. Clean room.

SHANGRI LA is a must destination.
SHANGRI LA is a must destination. Actually Yunnan Province is a must. Every town is so beautiful and exotic.. a dream for the eyes and for the photographers! 3 days per town is a minimum, there is so much to see and the people are really friendly... We could have stayed a week in Shangri La alone, just to be able to explore the area more extensively. We'll definitively shall return!

For me this place is over rated .
Firstly this place is very much " designed" to attract tourism. If it is not for the unique temples , buildings and old villages of the Tibetian, their religion influence internal and to the community there which existed many decades ago, the Nepahai Plains, ShangriLa has not much to offer for tourist. Many business commercialise focuses on food and local delicacies.
There are not many heritage location or attractive places to visit. While good natural reserves like Pudacao National Park, a big part of it have been largely closed to visitors.
Quite disappointed .

My experience was of the old town mostly and two excursions one to a local monastery and the other to a national park Potatso about half hour away. The old town is pedestrian so that was good. People friendly. Plenty of food choices. Free join in dancing in town square at night. Streets clean.
Plenty of taxis to get around.
