The location was good! It was easy to find parking in front of the property. Our favorite parts were the friendly staff, the amazing traditional breakfast, the pool, and the overall layout of the building and rooms. It was very cute!

Location was top! At Tamarindo, steps from the ocean. We love everything, arrived late and left early - our breakfast was packed for us. It was so nice. The room was great too, it had everything we needed.

Tamarindo is amazing.

Tamarindo is amazing. Villarreal is a small local town nearby. The construction and yard cleaning machines make any stay in these areas a bit noisy. Overlook the noise and commotion and crowds and the area is really fun.

The beach has so much to offer!

The beach has so much to offer! There were a ton of beginners surfers with easy access to surf instructors. The sand was lovely and clean of garbage and debris like some locations. There weren't any people trying to sell us things like in Tamarindo. There were beautiful shells to see and appreciate along with some rocks to go out on and look for small fish and star fish. Everyone was friendly and there were even some marked off areas where they had turtles laying eggs recently. Just a really beautiful place. We will be returning again soon!

Tamarindo was a wonderful destination to explore as a solo traveler. My favorite memories were watching the spectacular sunsets at Tamarindo Beach, taking a catamaran tour with a stop at Playa Carbon, and joining the estuary tour through Las Baulas National Park, where I saw monkeys, crocodiles, and a variety of birds. I also loved spending Saturday morning at the TAMA Artisan Market, wandering from stall to stall, sampling local products, and chatting with the vendors. I found myself returning to Kukula (at Plaza El Estero) several times because of its delicious, traditional Costa Rican food, good quality, gluten free options, and excellent value for the price. Getting around Tamarindo was easy on foot, and I would wholeheartedly recommend the local tours, the beach sunsets, and the artisan market to anyone traveling on their own. If you enjoy a slower-paced trip centered around nature, local culture, good food, and beautiful sunsets, Tamarindo has a lot to offer.

Found a great place to eat on the road down to the beach - Barumis. Great service, great food, great coffee. The road is gravel/dirt, but my little Honda Civic was able to handle it fine (dry season!), just watch out for the dips and bumps. The beach was crowded due to the season (Christmas break) but people were relaxed and respectful and it seems like we all had the same idea - watch the incredible sunset over the ocean and enjoy the sand and water. All told, with the great people at my Drift Away hotel, a very enjoyable vacation!

Nice quiet beach town, with just enough to do.

Nice quiet beach town, with just enough to do. Good surf but inconsistant small waves in Palm Beach near our hotel when we were there. Crowded near the main town and surf break 1 mile away where waves are definately bigger. It's a strong beach break, so not great for beginners and quality was not always so consistant. Can be dangerous, no lifeguards.

I loved Tamarindo but for me, 3 nights is enough to see what there's to see here. Ocean Restaurant right on the beach was a great spot for watching the sunset and food was good here. Refugio was also good-great burger and surprisingly their espresso martini was almost as good as my husband's. Tamarindo is Very walkable and lively beach town which reminded me of the jersey shore. If this is your style, then you'll love it. If you're easily bored with the usual beach scene after 3 nights, then put La Fortuna and Manuel Antonio on your radar. I met many Costa Ricans that recommended these areas for their wildlife, scene and adventures which is right up my alley.

Playa Avellana is a beautiful beach and well-known to surfers. There is a lot of surfing there. So it's not recommend just for swimming or messing around in the water since it can be dangerous. No lifeguards. It's a beautiful beach to visit and even spend the day - there were lots of local families there enjoying it - and surfers will love it. The access roads are difficult as is parking. Probably not feasible if you don't have a 4x4.

Playa Grande is gorgeous wide and long sandy beach, very natural. There are spots for beginner and advanced surfers and is suitable also for families with kids. There is only one bar or buffet on the beach, but a beach club and few hotel restaurant are near by.

What a great town!

What a great town! Tourist-y, yes but our stay was wonderful. Amazing food, amazing people and Almacen -the health food store - was a daily favorite for shopping! Beach walks out and back were 2-ish miles which was nice. Lots of opportunities to learn surfing, lots of excursions available…great place to be.

Playa Avellana is a high quality surfer beach but low key for real surfers, while us folks not on boards could have fun watching along with swimming and walking. The fish and chips at Lota's was also outstanding, along with the mellow beachside vive.
