The onsen on site was extremely good, it's worth staying there just for the onsen alone.

It was very cozy and full of little nice details, it felt like arriving at a friend's house.
I really liked that the owner put a lot of effort into his house. There is a lot of respect for local traditions, and you can appreciate it here.

I liked walking around the hotel. There were stores and restaurants nearby. Easy in and out from the hotel for our exploratory road trips in the nearby areas. Our second best breakfast on our trip. The hotel was easily seen from anywhere in the area.

This was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at - from the hospitable welcome, the myriad of amenities (free welcome hot bev, udon noodles post-onsen, incredible rooftop onsen with great views, free ice cream and Yakult post-bath), cute and clean rooms, the ease of doing laundry within the women's locker change rooms etc. The buffet breakfast was super delicious and we just really enjoyed our time and experience here we wanted to stay in the whole time. HIGHLY recommend staying here if you're in Matsumoto.

We stopped here on our way down to the Nakasendo Road. The breakfast was delicious and the woman who helped us check in was so kind. She even spoke to us in English which I never expect but always appreciate!
I also liked that there was a parking lot that did not require a reservation.

Location is great! Right next to the station. Staff was helpful and helped arrange luggage delivery to next stop. Breakfast was good with lots of options.

We had a wonderful stay in Narai-juku.
We had a wonderful stay in Narai-juku. Our host was incredibly informative and gracious, meeting us at the train station, walking us to the accommodation, and taking the time to show us around the property and explain everything clearly. The accommodation itself was clean, thoughtfully prepared, and well equipped with amenities, and all facilities worked perfectly. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The host also kindly advised that most local businesses close around 4–5pm, so it’s wise to bring groceries for dinner and breakfast, especially for early risers. A truly hospitable and memorable stay.

He, it`s owner, has "buone sense estetico" in various parts of life, i.e. Arts, painting, printing, Audio facilities, Furnitures and SDGs. He might be seeking for a sustainable healthy life with sustainable small business in tiny village with his family members. Therefore, you may also be available to see and buy his collaborated friend/artist/craftsman's goods at his place.

Matsumoto is a smaller city and perfect location for first time visitors to Japan who want to experience the beauty of the Japanese mountains. Hiking areas can be reached quickly by the local train. There are less tourists in this area so it is a good place to immerse yourself in Japanese culture.

Both the private natural hot spring bath and the sauna were amazing. Every facility had a great range of high quality amenities and were spacious, clean, and well maintained. The location was beautiful with traditional Japanese architecture. The gardens were beautiful and I was able to enjoy walks around the premise. The location was easy to reach via rental car since it was very close to the highway exit. I only stayed one night but I wish I had stayed longer to enjoy the stay.

Lake Suwa is phenomenal.
Lake Suwa is phenomenal. The city has several museums and shopping centers. It's really easy to bike around and enjoy the nature. It's also only 30mins by train from Matsumoto. Really quiet and peaceful compared to Tokyo.

We initially planned to stay only a night in Matsumoto and directly go to Kanazawa the next day but we ended up staying a whole day in Matsumoto, going from temples to shrines to emples, meeting lovely people like Haruki (hopefully I remembered his name correctly...) who recently opened Ko-Hi-ya ISAMI, a small bar/cafe in front of a generous bakery in the Nawate Shopping Street. He was very lovely and we discussed for a while.
One of the greatest experiences of our trip so far!

I changed my travel to try and fit in a night at Matsumoto instead of aa night in Tokyo.
It was really nice an calm, I didn't get to see the castle light up in colours but that will be the time of year I went (no festivals and snow melting).
I did get to go into the castle and with all the stairs am glad I left a few hours in the afternoon for this.
Easy to walk around town, if I had more time I would of done some day trips to older villages out from Matsumoto as well as the shrines and onsen
