Butterworth is mainland Penang.

Butterworth is mainland Penang. There is this SUNWAY CARNIVAL MALL. The LG and upper level 1 (and maybe 2) are similar to TRX Kuala Lumpur Mall. Pedestrians can experience the new ferry rides - with no cars, only motorcycles - to go over to Georgetown. From Butterworth one can travel East to Kulim and North to Alor Setar, Kedah. The ETS train terminal makes KL an easy place to visit for back pack tourists - and the ride is cool and hassle free.

Food was front and centre for us and the options were...

Food was front and centre for us and the options were amazing. We did a food tour early in our stay and this gave us excellent and varied options for the rest of the week. George Town is a welcoming and vibrant place although I could have done without menus being constantly waved at me as I walked along the street. Lots of access to taxis through Grab. Overall, an excellent place to visit.

Perai is an Underrated Land to Explore which is a another Option Place to Stay to avoid Massive Traffic in Penang Island. Hotels, Food, Fast Access to Exit the highway and the Shopping Malls are within 5-8mins drive. Obviously money worth it compared to spending so much in our accommodation on the Island.

Plenty of upmarket trendy cafes in the complex.

Plenty of upmarket trendy cafes in the complex. Food court in nearby Lotus shopping mall. Good quality food and Juice bars. Grab service is the option as public transport is almost a nonevent. The cafe strip overlooking the Marina is about the place to be. Sams supermarket is something special.

best place to explore because there's a lot of local street food that can meet ur expectation...beside the environment also are not so urban and not so rural....just nice to stay for a short vacay . here have wonderful themepark_Bertam Resort nice hotel_Bertam Resort local area_sunshine square Bertam, Bertam Avenue and etc reachable by Grab

Butterworth has really developed over the years.

Butterworth has really developed over the years. Many restaurants have sprouted. But most importantly, the old ones are still around, ie in Bagan. As for the places to visit, there's beautiful temples, a church and many trekking spots to go to! I will definitely make another trip soon. :-)

I was at Penang Hill.

I was at Penang Hill. It was supposed to be only for 30 minutes, but the furnicular train ride was so smooth on a sunny afternoon at 1:30PM that upon arrival I could not resist staying for nearly 90 minutes - as the place has been upgraded very well. The weather is slightly warmer than Cameron Highlands only. There is a construction work to upgrade the hawker area. I will return in 3 years' time. There is no more ferry rides for cars. I drove in from Butterworth using the Penang (first) bridge and left Georgetown via the Second Bridge. This 2nd bridge ride is much longer - and the scenery makes a happy memorable holiday.

Nice town.

Nice town. I studied at University Science Malaysia so always been on this side very often due to the ferry and bus service. A lot has changed in the past 20 years but still, some of the old sceneries and buildings were there such as the Convent School, The Hospital and the Indian temples.
