Baçal is a small village, no great monuments or points of interest, the house of "Abade de Baçal" is decaying into ruins. I stayed at a very pleasant "Moleiro de Baçal", clean, spacious, modern and nice! See my more completereview elsewhere.

I visited Braganca for a workshop at IPB.

I visited Braganca for a workshop at IPB. The university is impressive! I loved my visit to the Castle, and also walking around in the city centre streets. The city is a mix of good (churches, museums), but also not maintained in many places. I was not really impressed with the Port or wine, I bought, perhaps I just did not know what to choose. The liquer, bought at Merrian, was very good. I was able to buy quite a few nice gifts (mostly pretty table cloths), which were not very expensive, and of very good quality.

Perfect tranquilty.

Perfect tranquilty. Quiet village in National park outside of Braganca (20 minute drive). Very comfortable house with all facilities in Kitchen as per advertised. Excellent host. Luis is a gentleman and took great care to ensure the stay was great. Gave full privacy but responded immediately to requests! Even had flat tire on my hire car fixed for me, with no charge. Great fireplace. Wood delivered to door each day. Booked for two nights and stayed for four. Wish I could have stayed longer. Highly reccomend!

We stayed in one of the chalets on site and enjoyed both the comfort views. The place was busy with camper vans and others using tents but there remained plenty of room for all. The chalet was spotlessly clean and roomy for two people.

Braganca is truly beautiful.

Braganca is truly beautiful. Take a walk along the river and up to.the castle and you will see a lot. We also visited a number of museums, including the silk museum (see the pic below), and historical spots that brought much of the history to life. The nature in May was very green and the scattered red poppies and other grassland flowers among the rolling hills lifted our souls. Our work at IPB University complimented this happy mood, so the synergy between work and town made this a great visit to a beautiful place.

Bustling city with plenty of cafes and eateries, slightly off the usual tourist trail. The Castelo de Braganca was well worth a visit. We thought the prices in the city were very reasonable. Watch out if you are using an old satnav - we were directed up a very steep, narrow street which turned out to be a dead end. The reversing down the cobbles and a 37-point turn were a challenge!
