GREAT PLACE. In the middle of a Banana Plantation. We happened upon this place as we needed to change our original plan at other close place NatureHaven, (No Electricity, Barking dogs all night, Chickens form 4am On. Don't staty there)
BUT Hondo Hondo was great for us. 3 bedrooms, one with a bathroom in the room. 3 people traveling with a Driver and Chef. Great 2nd story eating area. Great location in very quiet neighborhood. Price was fantastic.

Escorts to and from the rooms. Plenty of food for dinner. Was a buffet which was great. We left quite early the next day so they boxed up our breakfast for us. Nice outdoor area for playing cards.

The entirety of the lodge is situated on a hill side with immaculate views of the Ngorogoro forest and surrounding areas. Everyone who works on the property is extremely kind and gracious, and helpful in anyway, you could ask for. The food prepared for all meals was delicious, and they even made us lunches for our safari. Everything was exactly as described and I cannot recommend this place enough, I hope to come back one day.

We liked everything at the Manor. Altus, the GM has put together an incredible experience for their guest. The staff was incredibly attentive, going above and beyond to please us. Charles, who was our main person there, left us a warm bath ready for when we got back from safari and set up a special private dinner for us. The property, overall, was picturesque; the photos aren't able to show how beautiful this property is. Meals were amazing as well, especially the dinners, which consisted of nightly 5-course tasting menus. There's a great selection of wine, which seems to have been hand-selected by Altus.
We also got to ride their horses around the coffee plantation.
The safari to the Ngorongoro Crater wasn't the best safari we experienced, but it's a different ecosystem from that experience in other regions of Tanzania.

Convent for sincere and kindly nuns with simple en-suite rooms for visitors. Amazing value with 3 meals a day included. Very close to entrance to Ngorongoro Crater Wildlife Park, and pleasant walks in the area. The nuns are so ready to do anything to serve their guests. Most of the food is freshly grown on their premises.

When we discovered that our screen door was broken, staff went out of their way to replace it. Breakfast was lovely. The room was well located and provided just what we needed for our quick overnight stop in Karatu.

It’s a beautiful green town on the main highway from Arusha to Ngorongoro with plenty of facilities such as banks, markets, and shops. A perfect stopover between park visits and easy for self catering stays.

The staff was extremly helpful, I was suprised. For that low budget it was a very nice Location in the middle of the town, you could easily walk around and look at some shops, there were campers on the lawn in front of our rooms every night, but we did not hear much, when they left early in the morning. I can definitely recommend the place especially in comparison with the overpriced lodges around with stressed staff. You can do day tours easily to at least 2 National Parks from there, what we did.

Karatu is a good base for Safaris and smaller excursions.
Karatu is a good base for Safaris and smaller excursions. The village itself hasn't much to offer (or at least the eastern side). There is a KFC though; Karatu Fried Chicken, which has very delicious chicken.
A little further to the east is Mto Wa Mbu. It has quite a lot more cultural things to offer for tourists.

Karatu offers resorts and staycations through a range of properties. Make sure they are at least 2Kms or more from town, as the town area is too dusty especially during dry season. Only the Main Road is of bitumen, most of the side roads are muddy and kicks up too much brown dust.
