The pool was probably one of the warmest pools we’ve had at a hotel. The kids were very happy they didn’t have to have their swimming time entirely in the hot tub. Also, we had to get an extra bed and the manager was very accommodating and got one to our room pretty quickly. She even knew what room we were in just by remembering a conversation from a half hour before. The breakfast was good and hot too! Would definitely book again!

Gillette is a nice town in Wyoming.
Gillette is a nice town in Wyoming. It is surrounded by coal mines, that are interesting to drive by and watch mining in action. There are a lot of oil fields, too. It is close to Devil’s Tower to the East and the Big Horn Mountains to the
West. People are friendly and there are plenty of hotels and fast food.

I stayed in Gillette overnight.
I stayed in Gillette overnight.
I went to the Rockpile Museum and the Frontier Auto Museum.
The Rockpile was full of local history, with a bit of everything: archeology, paleontology, anthropology and local heroes.
Frontier Auto Museum is interesting for just about anybody. It is packed with consumer history, from old coffee cans to medicine to oil and gasoline logos. Look closely, you may miss something.

Gillete is a very small town with zero public transport so the only reason to go there is if you wanted to visit the sacred mountian "Matao Tepei" / Devils tower / bear lodge (1st national monument). You;d really have to get your own vehicle or find some local to help (you;d have to be really lucky to do so) there is no other way to commute really, the 2 taxi services in Gillete have closed down, nobody offers tours to this place, the community visitors center has no information or help either, and Gillete has like 1-2 max cars for ubers and they dont show up often...
Going from huelet instead of gillete via drive / tour or doing this epic mountian visit as part of a longer south dakota - wyoming bus / preplanned tour might be a safer bet. They offer tours from denver / salt lake which are very economical, well laid and safer bets for people who are not driving or not familiar with these places as they are wild and filled with just open spaces for long distances so one can feel stranded if all by themselves and not knowing where/ how to commute. The internet is bad and you lose maps too in certain pockets. I went to gillete as that was the only closest city to this mountain but I had no idea they dont have a single tour / facility / way to go to this place at all! its an untapped business segment actually as this mountain is truly sacred and worth visiting and nobody offers its tours from its closest city!
This 'Matao Tepei' mountain, the sacred place is magical and must be visited for sure as it has a very powerful energy and truly extraordinary but reaching here is a bit challenging so plan ahead.
