The Nine Kings was our favourite accommodation on our recent trip to Japan. The room, house, and grounds were all beautiful: spotless, thoughtfully appointed, and incredibly comfortable. Hiroshi and the host family’s kindness went above and beyond, making us feel like family from the moment we arrived. After a cold, rain-soaked day on the Shimanami Kaido, their hospitality was especially appreciated. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.

We loved this property. We’re traveling through on bikes and it was so close to the course. Owners were so responsive and kind. Beds were so comfy and everything was spotless. They kept our bikes safe in their garage. We couldn’t have been happier!

The host, Ogawa, was exceptionally warm, kind and accommodating. We spent 3 nights at Base and ate dinner there each night. Ogawa worked hard to accommodate our gluten free diet restrictions while still preparing traditional Japanese foods for us to eat. Each dinner was delicious and the portions were large enough to fill us after bicycling long distances each day. We ate dinner with him each night and conversed via google translate. The dinner conversations were fun and enlightening about Japanese culture.

The house is very well-maintained considering it was built in the Showa era. The interior is spacious and clean, and there’s a lot of green space outside. There’s even a small road at the back of the property which runs alongside a creek. It is a very calm, laidback location. The surrounding areas are mostly farmland, hills, and mountains. Very rural and full of natural beauty. Life here is quaint and slow. Hisato-san is a wonderful host. He’s always there to help, and very open to conversations. The hospitality is second to none. I definitely felt like family during my stay.

Not sure if this was a ryokan, but comfortable stay regardless. Location is a bit off the main road and up a hill. Close to Ōyamazumi Shrine and the main shopping street. Host very friendly and accommodating. This is an older house, and the rooms aren't soundproof. You're able to hear other guests talking in the common area downstairs. But it didn't bother me, and I was still able to go to bed early. The sounds just felt like being in a house with family. Washer and dryer are free to use.
