It was in front of the beach we wanted to visit.

This is not a place for everyone — and that’s exactly what makes it special. The area clearly has great potential, but it hasn’t been touched by mass tourism yet — and that’s a huge plus. You need to come with a spirit of adventure, humility, and deep respect for the land and its people. It’s crucial to protect this place so it doesn’t turn into just another overdeveloped tourist spot. If you do that, you might find yourself living a dream, immersed in the rhythm of the local community. Don’t expect luxury — expect something better: the sound of the waves as you fall asleep, a glass of rum on a wild beach, or sharing homemade food with locals who welcome you with a smile. For me, it was magical. But please — come with an open mind, a light footprint, and a respectful heart!

The place was soooo peaceful and serene. The host was super friendly and cultured. I would LOVE to go back. Very close to the beach too!

We arrived a bit late due to a rainstorm and traffic around Bani. The senora was kindly awaiting us and after helping us to park our rental car in the spacious parking lot, welcomed us to the room. The room was immaculate, well appointed and we could walk out of our large double sliding glass doors onto a private patio to the swimming pool, breakfast area, and directly onto the beach. The glass doors have an electric remote controlled roll down steel shutter in case security is desired. The sheets and pillows and bedding were very clean, and the staffed changed them and cleaned the room daily. The bathroom worked well, with unlimited hot water. Tv was good, more than 100 channels. WiFi was fast. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, fresh bread, eggs, sausage, fresh squeezed juice, coffee and tea, and we even tried local yucca (yummy!). The place is very quiet. It’s in a huge compound on its own private point with a secret cove. You can swim in the hotel pool (cleaned daily by the senor) or head for your own private beach where there is no one. Big Highlight: Playa El Quemaito is only 10 minutes walk down the gentle shoreline where you can do snorkeling and swim in coral reef encircled protected swimming area, where even weak swimmers would feel safe. Also, it’s a quick 40 minute drive to the Larimar mines from here. The building and grounds of Hotel Al Mare are pretty and well maintained, there are lots of plants beautiful plants. The price is very affordable and obviously the owners could charge much more, but this is their home and they are friendly and kind. Hotel Al Mare a fine beach spot between Barahona and Paraíso. Don’t miss it!!
