Nigel has thought this out well, the fine details are what makes this place. So many little extras and thoughtful "bits" throughout. It seems like he has said "what would I want if I was staying in a B&B?" and has provided the lot. Very well done and I would suggest a few nights here as a base to explore the Flinders as it will soon feel like home.

The cottage was very clean and well maintained. The beds were really comfy too. It had all the amenities you'd need for a comfortable stay. These included all types of kitchen utensils and a BBQ. There was also clear instructions on how to use the appliances too. They also provided a range of quick breakfast options (Oats, Coco Pops) that was a hit with the kids. This was a last minute planned trip so we were only there for 1 night, but wish we could've stayed more. Don't forget to look at the night sky for a glimpse of the Milky Way :) The place exceeded our expectations. Thanks Steve & Deb.

Hosts Brandon and team are welcoming and friendly. They also successfully assisted us in finding accommodation on site for four additional travelling companions. They had booked into a hotel/motel down the road, unaware that it was a filthy unsafe establishment. Our hosts' actions and hospitality contributed to a great couple of days in the region.

The drive from Adelaide to Arkaba Homestead was easier than I expected and the whole region around Arkaba is a beautiful part of Australia to explore. I didn't spend time in Hawker itself, but can highly recommend Arkaba Homestead for a stay in the Flinders Ranges

The room was quite adequate for an overnight stay.

The room was quite adequate for an overnight stay. An interesting park opposite with historical railway items from the old Ghan train with information panels. A little further away in the park some excellent panels of Adnyamathanha art depicting Dreaming stories, with bilingual translations of key words.

Having travelled quite a bit in outback Australia, Hawker...

Having travelled quite a bit in outback Australia, Hawker proved to be pretty much as expected with all the necessities. Flinders Food Company was popular for good reason. It is certainly easy to get around the town. I travelled with my sister and cannot really comment on activities for children. Hawker was a good base from which to explore the Flinders. We enjoyed a day tour with Paul, a great guide from Wallaby Tracks Tours. Children would probably enjoy seeing the animals throughout the Flinders.

The townspeople were recovering from a major power outage...

The townspeople were recovering from a major power outage that had affected businesses badly but were friendly, caring and offering the best they could to travellers. The town itself is a gateway to the Flinders Ranges, but it offers its own tourism - Jeff Morgan Gallery, the local seismograph and interesting fossil artefacts, a beautiful RSL area, a local pool and good eateries, which may or may not be consistent in quality, as the pub had just had the cook walk out ( we avoided) and the Old Ghan restaurant's chef was unwell - the meal was passable, but not brilliant. The local cafe and new eatery were excellent. Fuel is expensive due to transport costs. Lovely church folk.

Hawker is a perfect base to use for exploring the environs of the Flinders Rangers. Hawker itself offers points of interest, is well serviced with basics such as fuel, workshop, groceries, cafes and eateries with the bonus of medical facilities in town.
