We stayed for 7 nights. Parndana is in the centre of the island - and it is a BIG island!! You can save lots of time and lots of $$$ in fuel by staying there. Many of the roads on the island are dirt so you may think 'oh it's only 50 km to wherever', but apart from the main roads all others are dirt, so it slows you right down. Apart from that advice, just go there and enjoy.

Parndana is a good central spot from which to explore the island if you only have a few days. There are a couple of places to get a few supplies but if you plan on self catering buy your food from Kingscote or Penneshaw. There is a cafe but it wasn't open during our stay Mon/Tues. We ate at the hotel at night and more than happy with the choices available. We visited the Flinders Chase National Park from here and Stokes Bay is just a short drive away. Both of these well worth a visit.

Parndana , is a small country town where the locals are more than willing to stop and have a chat, offer suggestions and directions. Spent a quiet afternoon having a good conversation with locals and that made our afternoon. It is small country town, but it is good to come back to relax and recharge after spending a day touring parts of the island. Rest, relax and chill out ready for the next day.

Situated in the middle of American River and Flinders Chase National park, it was the perfect spot when touring around the island. There are small grocery shops in the area too where you can buy food. The cabin was new and very clean. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. If I am to come back would choose this place again to stay

We stayed 3 nights, after staying our first night in Kingscote after a late ferry trip from the mainland. . The cabin is situated adjacent to the farmhouse driveway, the cabin's gate was closed, so when we arrived we drove to the farmhouse but nobody welcomed us so I had to call the owner for instructions. The cabin appears to be almost new so the facilities are excellent. We dined once at the Parndarna Hotel and had a good pub meal. Parndarna is centrally located with bitumen roads to most tourist destinations, and we found that worked well for us.

Wedgetaildown is an extraordinary destination. The accommodation may be the best VRBO/AirBnB we have ever stayed in. It is a perfect size for one or two people. The unit is lovely inside, with very comfortable furniture and beautiful artwork, and it has huge windows that look out over the scenic property. The unit is perfectly appointed and supplied. Although it attached to the main house, you wouldn't know it as the rammed-earth walls prevent any noise transmission, as well as keeping it cool in summer. We found the kitchen to be well designed and that it had everything that we could want. The shower was delightful, and there was a washing machine, which came in very handy! Sitting on the verandah, we were treated to close-up visits by the resident kangaroos and their joeys every day. There were heaps of colorful birds to watch. The resident family of fairy wren were a delight to watch. We saw echidnas several times but missed the resident goannas. And, the magnificent gum tree in front of the verandah was home to a koala during our stay. We were enchanted watching him feed and sleep. If you are looking for peace, solitude, absolute quiet, beautiful scenery and wildlife, all within easy reach of anywhere on the island, you could not possibly find a better place. And, I forgot, the sunsets and stars were to die for. Finally, our hosts, Betty and Peter, were as friendly, accommodating, and helpful as you could want, all while remaining unobtrusive. They graciously provided assistance with a leaky tyre on our car, lent us towels and a blanket for a beach outing, and gave us a whistle and compass to make sure that we wouldn't get lost on far reaches of their property. We would come back in a second!
