This suite was perfect for our family of three's weekend on Cormorant Island. We enjoyed the amazing view, and it was a great location to walk to nearby services - groceries, restaurants, library, etc. - or for a short-drive to the sights. Grateful for the well-stocked kitchen to do a bit of cooking, and the library of interesting books and games! Thanks Joe and Jenna!

Wow, that view is to die for! We chose this spot because we wanted a rest day after a multiple-day kayak trip and it delivered. Large, spacious, great sit out balcony with a sensational view and incredible bird life from bald eagles and hawks to little hummingbirds all around. Great shower and coffee (French press) too. It was perfect for what we were looking for.

A fascinating community with a chequered history.

A fascinating community with a chequered history. Friendly people. The U'Mista cultural centre and museum is world class. The totems on display in the old cemetery and around various residences and shelters are most interesting. The library and librarian Wendy was a fountain of knowledge and joy. The Visitors Centre had very limited hours and the lady there was not welcoming. The scarcity of restaurants and absence of a coffee shop was an unpleasant surprise. There was no place to have breakfast in the 2 days we were there. We managed a lovely meal a the Nimpkish Hotel on the Tuesday, but it was closed on the Wednesday (when it was supposed to be open!). The Ecological Park has awesome trails- a real bonus. The Gwa'yam (Whale Trail) was gorgeous too with a variety of great trees especially Sitka Spruce and Western Hemlock, and relics of giant cedars of a bygone age. The ferry ride from Port McNeill was very pleasant. The Seine Boat Inn was charming.

We are long time residents of BC and had never been further north than Courtenay/Comox. We found visiting north Vancouver Island gave us perspective on the province as a whole rather than thinking mostly about the issues with the Lower Mainland. Alert Bay and Sointula have museums that provide information on early life in the area for both indigenous and other settlers. It reminds us that life has not been easy for loggers, fisherman and miners.

A quiet, laid back atmosphere.

A quiet, laid back atmosphere. Not much to do with limited options for eating or getting a coffee especially Sundays and Mondays. Enjoyed visit but a couple of days was enough. Food at Nimpkish Hotel was good and people were very friendly

Visiting Alert Bay and the Umista Cultural Centre is a must-do for any BC resident. the history and story of the Kwawakuwak (spelt better) is important and the community and island are beautiful. Don't forget Culture Shock on the dock - a great shoppe with local artisan's work and amazing folks who run it. the giftshoppe at Umista is also wonderful... had great food @ pemba's kitchen and also the Bayside Inn Cafe for breakfast... go hiking, go explore - it's amazing

The Cabins were above and beyond great. The moment we walked into the reception we were greeted, by the friendliest man, ( Scott I believe?!)We loved all the information that he gave on Alert Bay, The Orca Inn for fantastic food, the musuem and the most memorable and special event going to the long house to hear stories of the land and of the Namgis people. The staff are all so friendly and kind, I loved how the cabins were so quiet. Every thing was very clean, and beautifully run. Thank you we will be back again.

The Alert Bay Lodge was charming, comfortable and hospitable. Very unique setting, with a warm welcome from the hosts. Good location, easy walk into "town". The community is great, lots to see and do. Fascinating history. Marvelous must-see: the U'mista Cultural Centre. Whales, dolphins and otters passing by the front of the Lodge every day!

We knew we booked an older hotel direct on the pacific ocean. The suite had a coffee maker, coffee and tea, fridge. No breakfast but we knew that. Dogs were accepted. Dogs had to be leashed all the time 👍 Parking in front of hotel. Easy. 5 star restaurant on level floor. Everything was in walking distance.

We were warmly greeted by Peter who very kindly upgraded us to the best suite in the Seine Boat Inn with views directly over Alert Bay. Later that evening, we saw a humpback whale just in front of our porch! Pure magic!
