Simply a hidden gem, highlight of our trip. Navigate your way up the rough dirt track and in past the animal ICU to a hidden oasis. Beautifully clean and surrounded by parrots! The staff where amazing, chef stayed late to cook for us one eve after a trip. Breakfast and dinner delivered to your balcony overlooking jungle and the Pacific. Accomodations excellent there's even a yoga studio open to the jungle and animal life! A private tour of the rescue centre in the morning and then you get to lie in bed or the pool knowing your money is helping all the amazing rehab work going on. Sitting on the rooftop lookout in the morning watching the flock of Parrots in the nearby tree was zen encapsulated!

A hidden gem 5km or so south of Montezuma with local sodas...

A hidden gem 5km or so south of Montezuma with local sodas and good eats, try the Calala Lodge and Jungle Lodge, which provide free tours and breakfast included in your stay. Unlike Santa Teresa, this place is quiet and the vibe is tranquil.

Drive to Malpais, tidal pools.

Drive to Malpais, tidal pools. Hike cemetary island at low tide, hike Cabo Blanco.....and there would be more to do. Cabuya is a very relaxed little township. If you fancy it more lifely, stay in St. Teresa/Malpais.

We didn't do the waterfalls near Montezuma as it was too hot...

We didn't do the waterfalls near Montezuma as it was too hot and the hike is a bit of a challenge (for us). We went to the cemetery in Cabuya at low tide. Made for a nice walk and amazed at this cemetery on an island only accessible at low tide. There is a grocery store that provides necessities but you may want to bring any favorite items to eat. Would recommend a car as it is a bit remote - but that is what makes it so desirable.

Cabuya, located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, is a charming small beach town that is situated near the Cabo Blanco Absolute Natural Reserve. It is often compared to the rural beach communities of the country before the 1990s tourism boom, which means that it has a less developed tourist infrastructure and offers a more authentic Costa Rican vacation experience. If you're looking for some peace and quiet, Cabuya is the perfect place to be. While nearby beaches like Mal Pais, Montezuma, and Santa Teresa are great for surfing enthusiasts.

There isn't much to do in Cabuya other than the cemetery...

There isn't much to do in Cabuya other than the cemetery island and the reserve for hiking. We did walk the beach which was rocky but saw a lot of wildlife. Not much available to eat. We spent more time in Montezuma. Cabuya is a nice day trip.

I am so sad i missed this place when first booking a trip to Cabuya. Jenny is an amazing person and especially cook, she was very attentive and we chatted for a while. The room was very nice and comfortable, the place has a little outside gym which is amazing (feels very good to be doing something on vacation) I highly recommend this place since you feel safe, welcome and the place has spirit.

This is a gorgeous property set in the jungle. The landscaping is beautiful and the pool and common area was nice to hang out at. Cabuya is a magical little town. We were the only ones staying on the property so it felt super private and safe. This is the perfect place to get away from it all and was a nice treat after the hustle of Santa Teresa.

Great place to relax and unwind in nature. You have everything you need to cook and chill in a relaxed air conditioned environment with hammocks outside. During my stay there were horses and deer roaming outside, with the sounds of monkeys and other wildlife. Also near the nature reserve and Isla de Cabuya for excursions. Highly recommended.

I had a great time, the lodge was perfect for me, it had everything I needed and some more. Very clean. Swimming pool was nice, well located to also enjoy the sunshine. Location of the lodge was good, nice and quiet. 15’ walk from nearest shop and not too far from the beach. Will definitely go back next time I’m in Cabuya!

Really special place! It‘s very green, in nature. The rooms are really beautiful. You have your own sitting place in front of the room. It‘s quiet. It has not much nearby, with the car you have 15-20 mins to Montezuma. The restaurant directly next to the hotel is delicious!!
