Staying here was a truly unique experience. The attention to detail in the design and service are beyond incredible. I would also like to give a special shoutout to the super friendly staff who were always willing to go above and beyond for me. The food at their restaurant was delicious I would recommend ordering the beef pinchos which are out of this world. I definitely recommend and can't wait to come back.

Great restaurants - prepare yourself for primitive roads and extra time to get around. Locals are very kind. Downtown is cute but wish it had more shops :) Make sure to eat at: Posada Marguerite, Senduro, La Luna (incredible pizza) and watch the sunset at Lagarta Gecko Lounge.

The surf and the people were awesome.

The surf and the people were awesome. The roads, not so much. But then again that’s one of the things they’re known for and almost proud of. You will definitely need transportation, an ATV, golf cart or motor bike as everything is spread out. And walking can be a little rough as there are a lot of hills. The food is good but expensive. If you’re going to rent surfboards check out a few places as prices vary quite a bit. I recommend Nosara Tico surf shop. Very friendly, a block from the beach and was $90 cheaper than the surf shop around the block for a 10 day rental.

Restaurants, shopping etc is spread out. No real downtown area. Renting a golf cart or moped is almost mandatory. Food was good but overpriced. Saving grace was that the surf was good. Overall though, don’t think I’d be returning

Nosara is a beautiful stretch of coastline, with lovely...

Nosara is a beautiful stretch of coastline, with lovely beaches, great waves for both surfing and swimming (subject to any red flags). Depending on the time of year, you might also be privileged enough to see new-born turtles slowly making their way into the ocean too. Another fabulous ritual amongst local residents and tourists alike is the evening trip to the beach for golden hour as the sunsets are just beautiful - I miss them already! When I visited, I travelled via domestic airline (Sansa) from San Jose direct to Nosara. There is plenty to do in and around Nosara and Playa Guiones, including a very strong beach and surfing vibe, and also health and wellbeing (yoga etc). If you're the adventurous type, there's plenty of adrenaline activities that are easily accessed within a short drive - I did the Sky Canopy zip line course with a small group which was fantastic. I also did a lot of horse riding and yoga at a nearby retreat during my visit to the area. Playa Guiones town and beach has a lovely relaxed vibe with boutiques, bars, cafes and restaurants. There is also a lovely weekly market selling everything from fresh fruit to clothing and a range of gifts and other items, often made by local artisans. If you want to travel further afield from your Nosara base, there are several national car rental companies nearby also.

A nice beach town which has most conveniences but is not too...

A nice beach town which has most conveniences but is not too big. We had visited in 1988 so the development since then was breathtaking. We visited during the off-season (October) so it was very rainy but had clear periods each day. The advantage to visiting this time of year is hotel prices are generally lower, but many businesses are closed so for example a restaurant you wanted to visit may not be open and I had more difficulty renting a good surfboard than I thought I would. As mentioned before, the rain can be a problem during the off-season but I understand the period from December to April is mostly rain free. I would imagine the town is much more crowded in season which could affect the experience.

Nosara is apparently one of the most expensive places in Central America, more expensive than the rest of Costa Rica, and the vibe is a bit weird - lots of wealthy travelers, $9 drip coffee, middle-aged white people mostly and lots of second-home mansions. We went to yoga at a resort that was $600/night and that seemed like no big deal for most of the American clients. However once we got to know the locals, learned to eat at local "sodas" instead, and realized the beach break is fantastic for surfing and protected so there's no beach vendors or beach bars, we had a great time. It's not a backpackers town, but it is very safe.

Staff were friendly and there was a very chilled vibe. Small hotel so pretty quiet. Close to Bodhi Yoga (approx 5 min walk). Delicious and generous breakfast included in room price. Often had small pool to myself. Hot showers, refrigerator and coffee maker in room, and 10 min walk to the beach.

I found the room quiet, i slept well, and the dehumidifier in the bathroom was sufficient to cool and dry the room, i did not even have to use the AC. Overall good value for money for Nosara if you have a car.
