This is a fantastic stay in an old convent that basically hasn't changed in all the ages. We stayed in one of the original nuns' rooms, and it felt like we went right back in time. The place is simply beautiful, relaxing, and comfortable. Various details of the convent show you that it was originally a Muslim building, probably some sort of mosque, and over time it has evolved into a convent and now into a hotel. The breakfast was excellent and highly recommended. We did not have the opportunity to try the dinner as we walked into town for dinner, where we had amazing food too. The history of this town is amazing. It used to be a fully Jewish town that was built during the time of the Romans when the Jews were brought over to help grow the olives and the grapes. A couple of miles away is the original Roman town that it was attached to on the other side of the hill. Over the ages, it obviously evolved and still maintains all of its history and charm. Worth noting, the hotel has two parking areas: a lower one (on the street before the main entrance) and an upper one (by the main entrance). It is probably best if you can make it to the upper one, as it is a little more charming and easier to get to your rooms.

El palacete azul is located in Almendral, just 23 miles from Badajoz Fortress and 22 miles from Convento de las Carmelitas. Guests are welcome to go for a swim in the private pool.

Love the house, very nice host, kids loved the pool! Town area was nice and quiet with restaurants around the corner, local butcher down the street! Parking is fine right outside the front door.
