Came for an opera, spent a full day in the city.
Came for an opera, spent a full day in the city. Everything is in walking distance, so that is sufficient to see the city and the castle.
Area is rich in nature, so a longer stay would include seeing the surroundings.
Train connections are relatively few and in principle connected to main trainline, but there is not much room for delays.

Will not stay at the Spa Hotel Casino.
Ate at the Muikkuterassi at the rooftop of Sokos hotel at the center market area . Also ate at Ravintola Majakka. Would recommend both places.
Nice walking town.

Savonlinna is so beautiful town.
Savonlinna is so beautiful town. Mainly the castle and the museum are both worth a visit, also a walk around the wooded islands and the town, during which it is worth a visit and refreshments at Cafe Saima, very delicious food.

Beautiful (and crowded) castle, possibilities of cruises on the lake and some nice restaurants. Great market in the mornings. A town for a couple of days, not more (unless you are here for the opera festival).

We had a incident there with poorly managed covid...
We had a incident there with poorly managed covid restrictions in upscale pizzeria in centrum. They didn't care social distancing and when we went to say about that, local covid denials launch yelling and swearing show. That ruined our evening and somebody might even say that its not worth to go back there. At least to that pizzeria that is.

Breakfast was outstanding, better than in 90 % of top quality hotels in most countries where I have travelled regularly because of my job. Location was perfect, close to the city market place, yet quiet and clean surroundings in the charming city. The personnel was most dedicated and took great care of us. In the garage of the hotel, where I recharged my Audi Avant A6 Quattro, was spacious.

Great, cozy home-like apartment in the centre of Savonlinna, just few minutes away from the castle. Calm location, nice views from the balcony towards the castle. Grocery store (K-market) on the other side of the street. All the needed facilities, e.g. microwave, coffee maker, kettle, dishwasher, washing machine, smart TV etc. Tuula was friendly and helpful. Warmly recommend!

Super helpful and friendly host. The facilities and nature are superb Between the house with its cozy chimney, the fully equipped gym, BBQ house, sauna, and direct access to the lake, it is hard to find a reason to leave! However, once you do explore, you’ll discover that Lake Saimaa is truly one of the many gems of Finland.
