The Haute Ville (or: Ville Fortifié) is extraordinary beautiful, nice restaurants and a piazza like in Rome; the church Notre Dame is definitely worth more than one visit. The lower part towards the beach is a bit...decrepit. Nevertheless, many nice restaurants and shops, and we always felt safe. People were very friendly, even if our attempts to communicate in French came to an early stop, as they all seem to speak English and are eager to use it. The Nausicaa was simply horrible (more computer screens than aquariums, narrow, crowded, humid, hot. One can safely skip it. Very beautiful landscape (the two caps, Calais), lots of Biosupermarkets and Boulangeries around...wonderful for a relaxing stay.

Would have been nice for a stop over on a longer trip.

Would have been nice for a stop over on a longer trip. It is a tale of two cities with a lovely old town at the top of the hill, but a very run down town centre with people begging on an evening. Boulogne feels like the poor relation the much more affluent neighbours of Le Touquet, Wimeraux and Hardelot. It is more expensive to dine out in Boulogne than in Paris! The beach is clean and a 20 minute stroll from the town centre. I wouldn't go again, there are much nicer resorts close by.

The beach was huge, clean with soft sands. The kids had lots of fun. The aquarium is spectacular. There are plenty of restaurants and it's a short drive from Calais, so very easy when taking the ferry.

Live near Dover and never been to BsM before, always passing by. Destination was for dinner at Matelote restaurant on the sea front. Superb fine dining. 1 night stay at very reasonably priced hotel/b&b Bucali. Loved the old town and will return to try other restaurants there. Lots more to see.

A beautiful walled city on the top of a hill with spectacular views. The main town has lots of shops and the beach and harbour, about a mile walk downhill from the walled city. A short lovely walk around the city walls is a must. Beautiful cathedral to visit and plenty of bars and restaurants. The seafood is wonderful.

The old walled city is much nicer than the more modern part near the port. The main problem is parking (if you go by car) - there is a car park right outside the city wall, but it gets full and it's hard to find a space sometimes. It used to be free, but it costs around 17 Euros a day now. There is also a car park near to the cathedral inside the city wall (which also used to be free but no longer is), but that gets used by the Christmas market in December, increasing the pressure on the other one. The Christmas market gets absolutely heaving. In the winter many of the restaurants in the town are not open in the evening, so it's worth checking opening times before choosing where to eat. The dome of the cathedral is lit up at night and is beautiful.

The room was good value, took pets and was fairly close to the old town. We couldn't get a space in the car park but we got a space across the road and it was free parking. The bed was pretty comfortable and it wasn't too noisy although the hotel was quite full. The shower was big and good power and plenty of hot water. Although it was basic it was clean. It had a hairdryer which was useful.

A very well appointed apartment in Boulogne old town and in a street that has many restaurants to choose from. Nothing major to complain about. It was a little cool when we arrived in the rooms, once we'd tried to retrieve the keys from the key safe, which proved quite a challenge! Would however strongly recommend it. Very good value for money.
