A clean, confortable room with air conditioning that really works! Also the location was perfect - close enough to the towns to enjoy restaurants etc but calmer than being in the “city”. The horses on the dunes were very special!

Beautiful accomodations in a small French village. We had visited the Azincourt 1415 museum nearby. Secure gated place (not that the neighborhood seemed unsafe anyway...it is a farming village). They also have an excellent gourmet restaurant where they serve both breakfast and dinner.

FAQs about hotels in Opal Coast

The Land of Lights, Cliffs and Dunes

Named by the painter Edouard Leveque after its unique light quality, the Opal Coast (or Côte d'Opale) is part of the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. Its stunning cliffs, sandy dunes and significant history make this region a place of great interest for tourists around the world.

The Opal Coast offers a ranquil atmosphere and truly magnificent landscapes: from wide, sandy beaches to steep cliffs reminding you of the famous cliffs of Dover, just on the other side of the English Channel. Cape Blanc Nez and Cape Griz Nez are among the most famous resorts; from the latter you can admire the never-ending stream of ships and tankers.

This popular seaside holiday destination has played its part in 20th-century history, being a place were a few battles of both world wars were fought, the most famous being at Dunkirk. It was also part of an Allied plan aiming at deceiving the Germans regarding the location of the invasion of Europe.

While on the Opal Coast, why not visit Calais, the major ferry port of northern France and, for many tourists, a starting point of their French adventure. Another popular destination is Boulogne-sur-Mer, France’s largest fishing port with a historical 12th-century belfry.

Whether you want to enjoy golfing, hiking or sightseeing, Booking.com has a perfect Opal Coast hotel for your trip.

Loved this hotel! The room was huge! The beds were very comfy. The pool area was small but not busy, and the steam room and Jacuzzi were both great. The staff really made an effort to make us feel welcome and the building inside and out is very grand. It is a perfect location, close enough to be a short walk from the front but far enough away not to be noisy. We loved it.

Most travellers see Calais from the ship or the tunnel and bypass it completely. But it has a lot to offer. The beach area is excellent with superb beaches, plenty of activities for the kids, play area, skate park, volleyball. There is a nice promenade to walk and an added attraction of a giant mechanical dragon, which moves slowly along the prom, carrying up to 30 people and breathing out fire. Just a little way from the beach are the fortified walls. You pass the well filled marina on the way into the town. In the town are there are plenty of restaurants and cafes. At La Place des Armes there is a splash zone , parking and seating. Walking down the ever present decorations of the Rue Royale you find many small shops, restaurants and cafes. Further on , near the station, there is a lovely park, Parc St Pierre, with seating, fountain and a small museum. Opposite the park is the fabulous city hall. You can see the tower from the ship as you enter the port. Superb gardens in front with ever changing themes. On from there up the Boulevard Jacquard there are more restaurants and shops and a mall near the crossroads of the three boulevards. Directly opposite is the Grand Theatre of Calais, worth visiting just to see the building. There are always plenty of cultural events going on. Calais is worth more than just a drive past.

Amazing places to visit. A lot from history, and arts. A place for calmness and comfort. My whole family couldn’t get enough of the evening walks to the beach, and play by the shore. French bread and patries were delicious, and seafood! I would say it is a place I wanna visit again.

The Haute Ville (or: Ville Fortifié) is extraordinary beautiful, nice restaurants and a piazza like in Rome; the church Notre Dame is definitely worth more than one visit. The lower part towards the beach is a bit...decrepit. Nevertheless, many nice restaurants and shops, and we always felt safe. People were very friendly, even if our attempts to communicate in French came to an early stop, as they all seem to speak English and are eager to use it. The Nausicaa was simply horrible (more computer screens than aquariums, narrow, crowded, humid, hot. One can safely skip it. Very beautiful landscape (the two caps, Calais), lots of Biosupermarkets and Boulangeries around...wonderful for a relaxing stay.

Le Touqet is an interesting town and the location useful for visiting both WW1 sites (Arras / Vimy Ridge), parts, of the WW2 Atlantic Wall. and Nausica (very very busy and pricey for a family of 5 but worth it). The beach is amazing. Lots of very clean sand and observant lifeguards. Parking is quite expensive (cost us £18 from 2pm in the red zone) but free for 2 hours in the middle of the day and after 7pm. We ate in 2 restaurants - the sports bar where the food was disappointing, and later for a similar price at L’Atelier Ephémère where the service and the food were excellent and in a better location. Lots of designer shopping (not for our budget) and lots of police to ensure safety (it's the second home of Mr & Mrs Macron I believe). Please note that any references to Aqualud Water park is outdated as this closed down a few years ago.

What a beautiful place, and cheaper than Le Touquet.

What a beautiful place, and cheaper than Le Touquet. The beach is to die for! I would have stayed longer but do find out if is a bank holiday as most of the shops etc were shut and we couldn't even get a carton of milk! The town does need to sort out its wifi, it was non existent, so we couldn't find restaurants or contact home...the locals say it is a consistent problem!

It is a pleasant, clean and comfy place to stay, conveniently located for the Ferry Port with friendly, efficient staff. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with a good menu and good quality food. It would have been nice to have had a bath rather than a shower in our room. Other than that, our stay was pleasant and we'd willing stay there again and have no reservations about recommending it to anyone wanting or needing to stay near Calais.

Wimereaux has a very long beach so plenty of space.

Wimereaux has a very long beach so plenty of space. It wasn't even high season but the parking was impossible as it was obviously a very popular place. Impossible to get into a restaurant unless you had booked. We only had a one night stopover and hadn't realised it was going to pose such problems. Not a good meal (almost cold chips - service so slow we almost gave up and a rather boring meal all round) but a very nice ice cream place just across the road. Unless I was wanting to spend time on the beach I would't recommend this place.

Justifiably voted the best town to live in France some years ago. It really has everything as a medieval town within the Vauban fort stone defensive walls. Great restaurants, cafes and individual shops supplied from local farms and the fishing port of Etaples. Theatre and abundant cultural events throughout the year. Surrounded by beautiful undulating countryside in the valley of the chalk spring water fed River Canche well known for its salmon and ideal for canoes and kayaks. in close proximity to the beautiful sand dune coastline of the Cote d'Opale coast. Ideal centre for walking and cycling.
