Beautiful Hotel, in the best location you could have in Carcassonne. We could see the Castle from our room. It was an mesmerizing view. It was even more beautiful then in the picture. Very clean and specious room, everything was beyond my expectations. A big plus were the lockers where we could leave our bags after we checked out. Would gladly recommend.

FAQs about hotels in Carcassonne

Out of a Fairytale

Most visitors to Carcassonne come here for one thing: to see its fairytale, UNESCO World Heritage-listed castle sitting majestically on a hill east of the city.

Spectacularly lit at night, this Cité is a restored medieval fortress with 52 towers, 2 outer walls covering almost 2 miles, and a drawbridge providing access to a keep. Twice daily there are medieval jousting displays within the walls. This intriguing castle has enchanted so many that it has appeared in novels, films and even inspired a board game.

Some Carcassonne hotels, bars and restaurants can be found in the Cité but the majority are in the Ville Basse below. The stone Old Bridge, also lit at night, links it to the city center over the Aude River.

Central Carcassonne also has its own sights including a fine art museum and a cathedral with impressive stained-glass windows. But its best feature is the South of France way of life, with relaxed bars and sidewalk cafes, some serving the local speciality – cassoulet. Other slow-paced attractions include boat trips along the Canal du Midi and visiting villages like Minerve in the surrounding hills.

Served by national and low cost carriers, Carcassonne Airport is only 3 miles from the city center.

Carcassonne was good for a quick visit.

Carcassonne was good for a quick visit. The town is lovely, a manageable size with a great facilities for tourists in the old city. The locals were friendly and I felt very safe and relaxed. Plenty of eating options and surrounded by beautiful countryside.

This is one of the biggest fortresses in Europe, if not the world. Can compete with Moscow Kremlin :) While not 100% authentic after extensive restorations of 2 centuries ago, the place delivers, especially around sunset. The only huge drawback of the old city is endless rows of shops selling stupid souvenirs mainly made in China, and crowds willing to buy all this overpriced crap.

Carcassonne is a beautiful place to visit, you have the largest fortified city in Europe and it is fantastic, an incredible place, you also have the Canal de midi where you can go on boat trips which are very enjoyable, amazing vineyards where you can get very good tours and learn about the various wines and how they are made. Place Carnot is a lovely square with beautiful restaurants, I could go on and on but these are the main tourist attractions.

Carcassonne has so much to do ,the castle ,the music festival the town ,the markets and the wonderful swimming lake just outside Cacasonne the restaurants are great and very well priced my fav irate was a Asian restaurant call Thang Long and The 4 Temps the food was great there the downsides ,large groups of men at night in town center who think it’s normal to pester women ,I have been there the last 5 years and only this year did we notice this ,if I left my wife to get a drink at the bar she would be pestered straight away ,the Celt Irish bar does a great pint of Guinness

We had 3 nights in Carcassonne at the start of our trip, and then 1 at the end. We became quite familiar with it, and enjoyed wandering around, and finding tucked away places. We had no idea there was so much to see or do within the castle walls! That was a wonderful surprise. And it feels as though the town is getting better. On the way back to the airport we popped into Monoprix with our cabin cases, and the security guard wouldn't let us in with them, which was a bit odd, as it hadn't been a problem anywhere else! Staff in the Tourism office were also not very approachable. But in contrast, nearly everywhere else we went, staff were friendly and helpful. Our favourite place for brunch was Au P'tit Brunch, and the pizzas (and decor) at La Table du Vatican were amazing!

We were pleasantly surprised by our visit to Carcassonne in mid-July 2026. We expected it to be swarming with tourists, but it was completely manageable, even during the busiest hours. Paying to go inside the castle and ramparts was completely worth it and an incredible experience. We were glad we'd booked the 1st time slot of the day because you have to go up and down quite a few little staircases as you visit the castle/ramparts and the heat just increases during the day. Finding a good place for dinner was somewhat challenging as there are many touristy restaurants and it was very hot and busy by 7pm. Breakfast and lunch were easier as there is a lovely boulangerie with a garden to eat in (La Boulangerie de la Cité), and many sandwich shops. Get there early as parking does become challenging as the visitors pile in! We also visited the old town of Carcassonne on the other side of the river but found there to be quite a few vacant businesses so we preferred the Medieval castle city.

Very good location close to the old city, shops and restaurants; from the hotel terrace you can see the fortress. The building has a small covered garage; there is no elevator but the receptionist helped us with our luggage upon arrival. Friendly and smiling staff. Very clean room with modern bathroom and comfortable bed; good wifi. In the room we had complimentary coffee, water, tea. Excellent coffee! Breakfast with many options; delicious homemade jam and cakes.

The attention to detail and it was the cleanest place we have stayed in. Super helpful hosts and a great position so close to explore Carcasonne old town. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone to stay in. It is actually better than the photos. Really loved our 1 night there and if staying a few nights as a couple you could easily use this place as your base

Location was great, very close to the castle and old town. Drove to the hotel from the airport but you can catch a shuttle which stops close by. Close to the river for strolling. Room was excellent, hosts were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was just enough. Would definitely stay again
