First of all, location, right as you get into town via auto or hiking the Chemin St Jacques. On the River Lot. You are greeted by a smiling hostess who is fluent in English and who has been the proprietor for 7 years. She is the figure-head, Cookie is the true greeter. They adopted him 2 years ago at dog rescue. He takes his role seriously. He is short-haired dark brown & black lab and hunting dog mix, with a right ear that telegraphs his emotions and interests. Nothing is better than when his male human parent shows up after work to take Cookie for a walk.

I had a good size room with a handbasin and a pleasant view of trees and neighbouring houses. The hotel is very cheap and close to town so even though it's a little seedy it does give very easy access to hiking and exploring.

We immediately paid to upgrade our room as the room we booked was way too small. We absolutely loved Maria the evening receptionist. She gave us good advice on restaurants and hidden things to see around Figeac. Couldn’t have asked for a better welcome than she gave.
