After being deeply disappointed by the standard of what I had believed was one of the top hotels in Scarborough, we were fortunate to find the Haddock Hideaway Hotel online at very short notice. My wife and I arrived at around 10.00 pm and received the warmest possible welcome from the proprietor, Jon. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was a very special place. We stayed for two nights on a bed and breakfast basis, and the whole experience was more than excellent. The hotel enjoys stunning views from its elevated position, the food was second to none, and the hospitality was exceptional throughout. One of the most unexpected and memorable features was the working jukebox in the bar, operated by old 1p coins. It added real character and charm to the stay. Jon and Emma are outstanding hosts. They clearly go above and beyond, and genuinely put everything into ensuring their guests have a superb experience. This was a real gem of a find, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Haddock Hideaway Hotel to anyone visiting Scarborough. A genuine 5-star experience.

Great spacious en-suite room, comfy bed, table and chairs. Room was located at the front of the building and hotel is located on Main St, we did not hear any traffic or noise from outside during our stay. Convenience store across the road and lovely park with playground next to it. Ate in the Mayfield restaurant and can definitely recommend the accommodation and the food.

Kinda old school holiday town, there's a lot of old fashioned bits about it. At North Bay lovely beach huts with families enjoying the beach, buckets and spades which was lovely. Some areas of town like any other run down and need attention (although I'm not sure what they can do). Definitely more a seaside resort than Blackpool. I would go to Scarborough rather than Blackpool. It was lovely to see all the kids on the beach messing about with their buckets and spades, like the old day. The park was like I remembered about 55 years ago, little boating lake etc and they seemed to have kept on top of that so fair play. So yes Scarborough still seems to have a bit of the old vibe.

The first time we have stayed in Scarborough.

The first time we have stayed in Scarborough. I am now wondering why it took us so long to get around to staying there. Plenty to see and do. Plenty of accommodation across all price ranges. Lots of places to eat and drink. Lots for kids to do if you have them, and lots for the adults too. Many surprises like the open air theatre. Tom Jones was on during our stay and many other acts had been and are booked. Parks and gardens, cafes and coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. Ice creams and crazy golf. Beachside bars, miniature railway - the list goes on! We walked a lot, but buses are available. Excellent lunches at the Beggars Belief cafe inside St Martin on the Hill church near the South Cliff on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. We enjoyed fish and chips at the Tunney Club just off Sandside. Excellent scones in the Clock Tower cafe. We will definitely visit Scarborough again.

We had a wonderful few days exploring the Yorkshire coast,...

We had a wonderful few days exploring the Yorkshire coast, and Scarborough was the perfect base for our holiday. It was our first trip away with our two dogs, and we were delighted with how well they settled. The area is very dog-friendly, which made travelling with them much easier. Due to mobility issues, we took everything at a relaxed pace, and that suited us perfectly. Scarborough has a lovely traditional seaside feel, with a beautiful promenade, harbour, beaches and plenty of places to sit and enjoy the views. A visit to the Harbour Bar for ice cream was a definite highlight! We also spent time in Whitby, Bridlington and Filey, each offering something different. Whitby was full of character and history, Filey had a lovely peaceful atmosphere and beautiful beach, and Bridlington offered seaside experience with its harbour and promenade. The people we met were friendly and welcoming, and there was always something to see or do without feeling rushed. We came home feeling refreshed, with lots of happy memories from our first holiday with the dogs. Overall, we had a fantastic break and would happily return. The Yorkshire coast is a beautiful destination, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing seaside holiday.

Ask Italian great restaurant and excellent service.

Ask Italian great restaurant and excellent service. South beach you’re advised not to swim, due to risky water quality. This area very busy. North beach so much better, picturesque, water looked good and enjoyable swim although the water quality grading just passes. Some of the sand quality mud colour. Open air theatre marvellous, it’s big, so you can be a bit far away, but acoustics great and screens aid the experience. It was dry on our evening, lovely setting with trees backdrop and moonlit. Fully open air, no cover.

Scarborough is great for family holidays with excellent beaches, plenty of amusement arcades and a good shopping centre. Both myself and my husband are disabled and have to hire mobility scooters to get around and this was problematic as the pavements are very bumpy and uneven, and some of the dropped kerbs are not situated in the most accessible places. Apart from that we enjoyed our two week stay. We rented a ground floor flat so didn't eat out often but the best fish and chips we had were from a small cafe next door to Iceland. And a ride on the cliff railway is a must, especially the upwards journey

The staff hotel and spa was absolutely beautiful for our 30th Anniversary celebrations and when we arrived there was even a bottle of prosecco in a ice bucket with rose petals on the bed. Then to proper finish our celebrations we went to see James the band at Scarborough open air theatre. Thanks so much for making our weekend the best ever. Oh yes and the Hotel upgraded us to the executive suite with sea view how lovely was that of them.

Perfect room - very clean. Two fans were in the room which was great as the weather that weekend was very warm. The views from the windows were amazing. As we were in the top room of the turret at the front of the hotel, we had a panoramic view of Scarborough, from looking south towards Scarborough Castle to looking out to sea above Marine Drive to looking further north towards North Bay. Truly fantastic.
