A beautifully presented family-run B & B that gives you all the privacy you want or engagement with other travelers in the well-appointed common areas. Funnily enough, they get quite a few bookings and then cancellations from Australian travelers who mistakenly think they were booking for Torquay, Victoria, Australia rather than on the Devon Coast, UK. The family is delightful with dad being an excellent chef (breakfast eggs benedict was cooked perfectly), mum was so hospitable with great directions and suggestions with our walk to the harbor front and dinner, and the daughter who looked after us with checking in and at breakfast was just a breath of fresh air (good luck with your uni studies). I would definitely stay there again but this time for a few more days so we could take advantage of that inviting-looking swimming pool.

It’s an old hotel that has a lot of personal memories for me. The views across the bay are unparalleled. 50 years ago this hotel was high class and iconic. Today that has faded, and it is not the 5 star hotel of yesteryear, but it still has elegance, space, style and setting that is unbeatable in Torquay. Also, at the time of staying (Jan 2024), the restaurant underpromises and over delivers. I would describe the food as casual haute cuisine. Impeccable menu, well balanced, all sauces made with concentrated and crafted flavors that are clearly prepared by a high quality chef. Also, thoroughly enjoyed a mud pack and massage. All the staff were friendly, helpful, attentive. Not the place it was but still a great place to stay.

What Guests Said About Torquay:

Devon is a beautiful part of England.

Devon is a beautiful part of England. But Torquay was a disappointment. It is a small and busy city with traffic. There are very ugly new buildings. I am sure it was a very pretty seaside town in old days.

Sadly Torquay central is somewhat run down due to many shop closures. However the harbor and beach is always very pleasant as are the beach cafes. The walk from the Osborne to Torquay via Daddy Hole is picturesque. Wellswood is very convenient for restaurants and Portofino is our favourite. The local shops there are useful. Ansteys cove is great to visit, to swim or paddle your feet and the food is good too.

Easily accessible beach and harbour.

Easily accessible beach and harbour. Access to delightful boat trips, and small villages nearby. Good restaurants, lots of choices with pretty views. Beautiful town with lovely gardens and palm trees. Also enjoyed the Torre Abbey and gardens as well as the theatre for a great Queen Tribute Band. A very enjoyable experience

We stayed in Paignton and just had a day in Torquay.

We stayed in Paignton and just had a day in Torquay. As a regular visitor during the 70s and again in the 00s, I was so disappointed in how it has gone down. The first thing you notice is the filthy beer-stained pavements that look like they haven't been cleaned for years. Half the shops appear to be closed or boarded up - many of the rest are bargain stores, vape shops and charity shops - none of the little independent shops that used to flourish. This was late July, peak holiday season, yet the place seemed deserted - it used to be vibrant. The harbour area is by far the best bit - it seems to have been kept clean and the pubs and shops seemed more upbeat and welcoming.

Walked to Babbacombe, good variety of cafes and a reasonable, if dated municipal swimming pool. Babbacombe beach was easily accessible either by walking or the railway. Torquay was very pleasant with a wide variety of cafes and restaurants, well set out, but its centre really needs to be revitalised somehow. It's typical of many UK seaside resorts with most the major shops not present in the centre. Took to train to Paignton. Beach was ok and the pier had lots of typical types of attraction. Meadfoot beach took some effort to get to but it was sunny, though the beach is very pebbly. The cafe was good.

I loved Torquay, a very pleasant town.

I loved Torquay, a very pleasant town. Besides the beach (which is submerged during parts of the day), it has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants, shops and various activities in the area. Nearby attractions include Cockington Country Park/Village/Court, Tor Abbey museum, the Torquay museum, the Southwest Coast Path, Babbacombe Model Village, Bygones (Victorian museum nearby), the Babbacombe Cliff Railway, Kents Caverns, the Dartmouth Steam Railway (from nearby Paignton), and the ferry to Brixham (where there's the Golden Hinde museum). There's also a theatre in town and one in Paignton that was showing an Agatha Christie play when I was there.

Absolutely fantastic stay at Rivera Lodge Hotel in Torquay! The hotel was exceptionally clean, comfortable, and had great facilities throughout. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the pool was a great added bonus for relaxing during our stay. John and Nickie were amazing hosts who made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. Their friendliness and attention to detail really made our stay special. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would highly recommend this wonderful hotel to anyone visiting Torquay!
