After being greeted (well not really greeted) by a very sullen staff member, I am happy to say that my experience with the staff improved. They were friendly, answered questions, and were very helpful in bringing me a glass of hot water for a drink when I asked, providing a kettle (only on the third night!), and fixing the electricity when it went out. However, considering that the hotel provided sachets of hot drink powder and tea bags in the room, I shouldn't have had to have asked for hot water - there should have been a kettle in there. And, when they did provide a kettle, it didn't work. Also, the electricity should not have gone out in the first place. Your experience here depends on the attitude and expectations that you enter with. It's pretty cheap, and so the accommodation reflects that.

Banda Ache as a city is quite abysmal.

Banda Ache as a city is quite abysmal. Litter strewn so untidy. Noisy .Pavements/sidewalks are appalling mostly. The tsunami museum well worth visiting, it’s the only thing there, apart from the quite good ferry terminal used to go to the islands. Finding the boat on the roof very difficult, you have to persevere in the many twists and turns. Drivers here on Samartra have no driver awareness or road etiquette for fellow drivers, and an even lower respect for pedestrians- drivers are rude, intolerant, drive far too fast for a city and give no thought to anyone but themselves. Locals can be very friendly or ignore you. Not a pleasant city

Going to the many beaches, especially in Lampuuk and Lhoknga...

Going to the many beaches, especially in Lampuuk and Lhoknga. Hidden treasures of waterfalls and swimming in the Lhoknga river nice for children. Easy to get around with Grab or becak. We ate at Bless Flower, Lampuuk - the best grilled fish! Eky Momong for views on the beach. Ben Jawas for Middle Eastern food. Simpang Lima Cafe for lattes and nasi lemak. The Cut Nyak Dhien museum is fascinating, even though photos not with English blurbs. And of course Sabang with plethora of diving and snorkeling

It gave me an idea of the tsunami event, how they recovered from the incident. What was almost unexpected was the mosque on the Lampuuk beach that was not affected by waves almost 15 to 20 meters high.

What a little gem of a place - very simple but so clean and super friendly people at the reception. We only had 1 night but we loved our stay in Banda Aceh and thought the city was really charming and interesting. They organised a tour with a guide for the afternoon and he was incredible - he showed us around the sights we wanted to see and took us for coffee. Highly recommended this place, it is simple.but really well looked after.

The hotel is in a convenient location and is very clean and well maintained. Our room was comfortable and well equipped. The included breakfast was excellent with a wide range of options. The absolute standout thing about this hotel was the wonderful helpful friendly smiling staff, particularly the receptionist who patiently answered all my questions and helped me plan my sightseeing. The airport pick up was also excellent.
