Amazing staff who are super welcoming and loved that they had water refills there as well. Also a good location where you can rent a motorbike from to go up to the viewpoints or for the hike to sibayak. The room is v cozy and also provide you with a proper blanket as it gets chillier at night here.

Wonderful host and a wonderful accommodation! Very cute tower with decent beds so we had some good sleep! You can walk to the city center in around 15 or 20 minutes. Had a nice subayak sunrise hike and visiting hotspring tour with Raja, would recommend!

Great place to escape the heat.

Great place to escape the heat. Temperatures stay around 20 degrees. Friendly people and good food. Enjoyed hiking up Gundaling Hill for an awesome view. I ate mainly at street stalls which are clean and safe. Beautiful view of the volcanoes. You can get closer but we were short of time so we didn't

Cesspool!! Open sewers everywhere. The whole town stinks of human and animal waste. Very dirty, trash everywhere. Hostile environment towards outsiders and tourists. Locals openly abuse animals all the time. Impossible to safely consume any food that is not pre-packaged from a Western brand. Consuming anything local or freshly made carries a high risk of infections, parasites, and diseases. No soap anywhere. Everyone tries to cheat you. Hike with Berastagi Adventures is an exception. They are good guides.

The volcano hike was amazing and so beautiful, but there...

The volcano hike was amazing and so beautiful, but there wasn’t much else to do after that. If in a straight couple or a mixed gender group it might be more pleasant to wander around and explore the the town, but as a solo woman or two women it was quite uncomfortable in terms of the amount of attention and harassment we received. If I went again I would just arrive in the afternoon, do the hike in the AM, and then head off again after that.

NICE TOWN, VERY NARROW ROAD, NOT ADVISEABLE TO DRIVE ON YOUR OWN, FOOD IS GOOD, WEATHER VERY NICE COOL. THE DOWN SIDE IS TO GET HERE FROM THE AIRPORT OR MEDAN. THE VERY NARROW WINDING AND THE LOCAL DRIVER IS SCARY, TRAFFIC JAM IS EVERYWHERE

To climb the vulcano in daytime no need for a guide. For the sunset if the sky is clear no guide needed. But if it is cloudy and night - get a guide. Extremly loud city due to the crazy motobikers.

Kaesa helped organise my airport transfer from Medan and we also booked our sunrise volcano hike through the homestay. The staff are great for recommendations around Berastagi. Room was clean, comfortable and great value for money. The walk into town was about 15 minutes.
