Amazing hotel, we stayed for one night after a long trip. The room was spotlessly clean and comfy, the stuff are polite and helpful. There is a lift. In the morning we had a breakfast for additional payment, it was so delicious, highly recommended. If you arrive at weekend, the laundry is not working, but there is a laundromat 5 minutes away by car.

The location was exactly what we were hoping for! Right in the middle of the main part of the city! I am a creature of habit and was going to default to a Marriott property but this hotel looked appealing! I'm so glad that I did! The apartment we stayed in was a off site from the main property but only steps away. It was very spacious and themed with an "art" decor. This was honestly the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in and especially for the price. The value was so well worth it. The service by the staff was always pleasant and so helpful! Lastly, the breakfast was amazing with lots of choices! The staff will also make you certain coffees and bring it to you. We had a very early morning flight and the made us box lunches to go!

FAQs about hotels in Bologna

A Gourmet Delight

World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.

Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.

Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.

The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.

Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

It’s the food capital of Italy!

It’s the food capital of Italy! If you’re into amazing food and great museums, Bologna is a must-visit. The city is full of life, and being a university town gives it such a diverse and lively atmosphere, with something always going on. It’s also incredibly easy to get around on foot, and the beautiful covered walkways are perfect whether you’re escaping the summer heat or the rain. Bologna was such a fun city to explore and definitely worth a stop!

Stayed for a week.

Stayed for a week. Also visited Florence, Ferrara and Ravenna during the time, which are fairly close by train. Gelato is perfect. Florence has better croissants, Bologna's tend to be too greasy. Span Pizzeria in Bologna has great and not too expensive pizza. Local red wine at La Taberna de Re Vallot is some of the best I've ever had. Porticoes helped a lot with the unrelenting sun. Do a climb to San Luca if you like a sporty adventure -- the whole way, about 2 km, is also covered by porticoes. Local people have great character, manners and especially style. Good choice if looking for artsy, individualist, non-conformist company. No crowds almost anywhere at any time and the streets are very walkable. Supermarket prices are ok. Restaurant costs can baloon with non-free water, bread and so on, not nominally included in the price. Certain kinds of hemp for personal use are legal. A useful thing to know is that many museums are free to enter every first Sunday of the month. Also, most shops are on a break from about 13 - 15 h. Public transport works well. The old city architecture is truly eye-candy. A city where literally everything is beautiful. Somehow, even the graffiti are beautiful and stylish. No stray animals -- if you like petting street cats like me, I recommend Istanbul. Allegedly there are lots in Parco della Chiusa, but I found none, probably because I went on a summer afternoon. All taken into account, 9/10 for me.

It’s a great food city - markets, salumerie (delis). Lots of restaurant, but not just typical Emilia Romania, but also Indian, Japanese etc, if you want a change. It’s mostly flat, so easy to get around (though also lots of cobblestones). I’ve lived there in the past, so I don’t need to explore so much.

This hotel was perfect for our stay in Bologna - it was a brilliant location. A 10/12 min walk took us to the centre and all the main sites. We did a train ride - very touristy - which enabled us to get a feel for the place. It was very hot during our visit, hence the train ride. To cool off, we found a spa just up the road from the hotel. would recommend a trip there - very friendly staff. Both nights, we ate in local, family run Italian restaurants which were excellent.

Bologna is an absolutely amazing city, and we loved every minute of our three-day trip! We ate incredible food the entire time and loved just walking around and exploring the porticos and streets. The absolute highlight was watching a summer open-air screening of The Matrix in the medieval Piazza Maggiore, such an unforgettable experience. We will surely be back!

The hotel is located in the northern part of the city centre, a 12-minute walk from Bologna Centrale station. It is only minutes away from rerstaurants, cafes, and the main porticoed street, Via Independenza. When I reported certain problems with the room I was given initially (air conditioner and safety deposit box didn't work), I was immediately offered a choice of two other rooms which were fine. There is an elevator to reach the six floors. Reception staff were very friendly.

I loved my stay at Hotel I Portici Bologna. The highlight was the breathtaking Art Nouveau ceiling in the breakfast room — having my morning cappuccino under that artwork felt magical. The hotel’s historic features and perfect location on Via dell’Indipendenza made exploring the city easy, and the 10‑minute walk to Bologna Centrale was ideal. Breakfast was delicious, and the coffee was excellent. A wonderful stay.
