Our host, Big Bear San, went out of his way to ensure we had a great experience He gave us advice on bus transport and picked us up from the highway bus stop, saving us an hour each way. He essentially acted as our guide, helped us see the Sandankyo gorge by adapting our schedule to the weather. He took us up to climb Mt. Shinnyu and showed us other beautiful viewpoints. He shuttled us out to a restaurant for dinner and cooked us breakfast on our last morning. He speaks excelled English and is an interesting and compassionate human being. One of the best experiences we had in Japan

We stayed in this hotel after long day riding our bicycles. Ryokan is located on the hill, overlooking the village. Beautiful view from the Onsen. Slightly outdated place, but has all the amenities one needs, and the staff was very accommodating and helpful. Meals were very nice!
