Grate experience in Nikko if you are looking for a bit of a remote area. Beautiful and quiet environment. The Onsen in the hotel is amazing, especially the private one! The food was exceptional, such an experience really recommended to book the dinner plan. Very not touristic in the best way, hart to find in Japan.

This is perfect for solo travellers. There is an onsen that is included in your stay. Make sure to check the hours that the bathroom and onsen are open in the book that is in your room. 100-yen coin lockers are available that can fit a carry-on-sized luggage well. Hot drinking water is available, and it is right across the street from a convenience store. Less than a 5-minute walk from the station. I highly recommend.

Nikko is very popular with Western tourists because of its history, natural surroundings, and quiet. It is dotted with several natural springs which almost all visitors are completely unaware of. The water is incredibly sweet and fresh. Bottled water cannot compare.

If staying for one or two days, don't need the Nikko pass.

If staying for one or two days, don't need the Nikko pass. If more than 2, it would be good to have as you are able to explore the area with bus transportation covered. The place is nice, but would need to spend a few days to appreciate. There a great pork cutlet restaurant across the cruise ship dock that was surprisingly very good and generous with their portions.

I stayed 2 days in Nikko.

I stayed 2 days in Nikko. Since it was not the peak time of year to visit, there were no crowds and easy access to the UNESCO site as well as waterfalls, the Villa, and dining in town. I will probably try to visit again in the fall when the colors are out.

We were there for 2 days.

We were there for 2 days. We got to see the UNESCO heritage site, waterfalls, and the royal villa while there. If the weather was nicer I could have seen staying longer to do some activities on the lake.

the Toshogu shrine and the surrounding shrines and temples...

the Toshogu shrine and the surrounding shrines and temples in that complex are amazing. We should have allocated more time to exploring them. We also road the bus up to hike from ryuuzu falls to yudaka falls through the marshland and it was gorgeous. We went just after a snow so i can only imagine how pretty it is in the other seasons with more vegetation. but even in winter it was beautiful, snow falling from birches, the river flowing around ice and giant icicles, the misty mountains over the marshland covered in snow….

Nikko is a quaint, lovely town of Japanese culture and spirituality. We went in peak winter and the landscape was gorgeous. Every place we ate at and visited exceeded our expectations! If you are respectful and kind, everyone will be the same to you :)

Sakahajiri was a bit more remote than I had planned for us to be from Nikko, however, when timing the trains right the journey from Tokyo was super smooth, and getting to Nikko and the world heritage sites was not bad at all. The hotel is stunning and we greatly enjoyed the traditional ryokan experience. The onsen was a particularly special and exciting experience. Unfortunately we didn’t book the room with food but got to try the cute restaurants and cafes nearby which worked well for us. I would book with food next time!

Another excellent Japanese hotel within easy reach of the local sights. We had a car (and onsite parking for no extra charge - unusual in Japan) but if you don't, then it is quite a walk uphill from the town and station. So a great hotel for car travellers. Nikko has some of the nicest temples in Japan so well worth putting on your itinerary.

Very cute little capsule hotel. I had never stayed in a capsule hotel before, but the facilities were clean, the small rooms were very comfortable and very quiet, if I go back to Nikko, I will likely stay here again. Very good value for money and excellent for solo travellers or young people/friend groups.

The onsen hotel worths its price. It's not pricey for an onsen hotel, and the facility is great. Buffet offers many food options, decent taste. I really enjoy the stay. I also got around Nikko when I stayed there. It's a great place to relax.
