We had a fantastic stay at this hotel, and even the weather cooperated to give us a marvelous sunrise in the morning. The junior suite was very clean and modern, but cozy, and had everything we needed. We had the wellness area with several jaccuzzis and a rooftop sauna under the starry night sky to ourselves in the evening and enjoyed the amazing views in the morning.

We had a lovely time here. The rooms and the spa facilities were lovely. We were able to stay in the two bedroom apartment with our small dog, but be aware they aren’t allowed in every room. Overall we had a lovely time and would recommend. Also note if you have any mobility issues, to get to the beach there is a relatively steep hill and rocks before you reach the sandy beach.

We found this rental in Hjellestad because we needed...

We found this rental in Hjellestad because we needed proximity to the UiB marine biological station at Espegrend. While in the end, we had to spend more time in Bergen city, we kept the reservation and don’t regret it. It was a peaceful and spacious refuge for a family of 3 or 4. The bus station was only steps away, it was easy to walk to get food at the nearby grocery store or at the one nearby restaurant (Havn), or to take the 53 bus just a few stops north for shopping. For a day trip to Bergen city, you have to make a bus connection but we didn’t find it difficult. The nearest local attraction is the Milde arboretum and botanical gardens, which were very enjoyable. One can also take a ferry to visit Klokkarvik and some nearby islands, although we had a hard time finding something to do without a car or bicycle in Klokkarvik. If we had time, Hjellestad would have been an excellent place to find a way to rent a kayak, boat, or go fishing. Overall, if one pays very careful attention to the 53 bus schedule, this is a perfectly reasonable place to stay for a family visit to Bergen. All facilities were in excellent working order. Thank you to the hosts for sharing their clean, calm, and beautiful home!
