Peaceful, private, and quiet in the most beautiful countryside surrounded by sheep and birds and lovely gardens. The facilities were immaculate and we felt right at home. It offered the perfect balance of feeling like you had your own space and privacy, while also not feeling all alone.

The host, his wife and staff were extremally kind, helpful and friendly. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. The bed was very comfortable. I was there in the middle of the week and pretty much had the pool and grounds to myself. There was one couple while I was there. It's made up of four ranch style buildings with three rooms each, a reception building that has a large dining area that is open to nature. The pool was large and beautiful with a relaxing lounge area. Great for viewing the night sky or a late-night dip. One of the best places I have ever stayed! I will be going back.

This was our favorite place in Portugal. We stayed two days and I plan to come back. The atmosphere just made me breathe deeper. Everything is so beautiful yet comfortable. Easy access (despite no in person reception). Very clean, modern room with thoughtful shared amenities (fridge, coffee, water). Awesome shower. 10 rooms (total), only two of which were in use so my stay was very quiet. I didn't use the garden area, but it looked lovely. I was walking the Rota Vicentina (Historical), so I didn't have a lot of extra time to check out the town, but I did walk to the Ermida de Nossa (a combo spring fed pool/fountain) which I highly recommend. Dinner at the next-door restaurant (Cafe A Lareira - say hi to Samantha, Hugo and Jessica for me!) was excellent and very informative as the South African/Portuguese owners speak perfect English and know the area very well.

There's more to Cercal than meets the eye.

There's more to Cercal than meets the eye. The beach and cove in Porto Covo are beautiful, very special. The beach on the estuary near Vila Nova de Milfontes is perfect for kids, warm, still, waveless and clean, with nice sand. Cercal itself is also very charming. Eat at Herdade de Matinha, Restaurante O Passarinho in Cercal, and at the numerous excellent restaurants in Porto Covo. The people there are warm and friendly.

Cercal is a typical Alentejo town, a common stop for travellers going to the coastal popular places such as Vila Nova de Milfontes. Nevertheless, it is still full of locals which like in other parts of the interior of Alentejo really deserve your visit.

One of our stops along the Rota Vicentina. Caroline was very friendly, room was very clean and spacious. Kitchenette had lots of utensils and a fridge which made it easy for us to make food for the following day's hike. Caroline was very helpful and quick to recommend places for us to eat in Cercal.
