Really excellent hotel in a beautiful village. The amenities were really nice and the breakfast had a nice selection. The gentleman who checked us in was very helpful and kind to our group. The other staff, including the breakfast ladies, were also very nice.

We had a wonderful time at the castle house. Helena the “manager” welcomed us, gave us a tour of the house and gave us details about the house. The owner left us a basket with special Portuguese cheese, wine and other treats which were enjoyed in the beautiful covered outdoor seating area. The game room had a bar, guitar, little toys for kids and a treadmill facing the pool and sunset. The rooms were extremely clean, and tidy. The owners thought out of every detail. The TV on the main floor provided access to Disney plus, Netflix and Roku. We had trouble with the heated towel racks in the bathroom and the owner quickly responded to our message on booking. There’s a small cafe by the church and a higher end restaurant by the castle. Both are really good. The restaurant was a little too fancy for our group but the food is good. There’s a trail you can take if you enjoy hiking. You can look on the map by the castle or church. And follow the red/ yellow signs. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

The town of Linhares is made up almost entirely of old stone...

The town of Linhares is made up almost entirely of old stone houses. Many have been modernised, but they have all kept the lines and façades of the old stone houses, so as to preserve the character of the town. It is a maze of tiny alleys, steps and twists and turns. Every new turn provides a photo op. The Passadiços do Mondego (a 12 km walk along the valley of the River Mondego) is a 30 minute drive away. It is fairly demanding, as at both the beginning and end have long, steep stretches of steps, which are quite challenging and not for those with knee problems. As well as all the little villages in the hills, the town of Gouveia is wrth a visit. And from there you can have a wonderful drive up into the Serra da Estrela. If you want to eat out, be prepared for a drive, as the only restaurant in Linhares is rather on the pricey side.

Breakfast was well above average for hotels in Portugal. The location and aspect was one of the best features. I am sorry we could not stay longer. Given the quality, I though the value was quite good.

This was an amazing find. The village is amazing and the hotel was great. Secure park(no for our motorcycles and the staff could not have been more helpful. This is on my list for a return visit

We visited during the very off-season and there weren't many, if any, other guests. Hotel staff is excellent and very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was very plentiful and tasty.

The view was wonderful and the location was convenient to the village and trails. Maria was so helpful with day trip ideas and her cafe in the village of Linhares is a must.
