We came in on a Monday, and there were limited meal options...
We came in on a Monday, and there were limited meal options in the town. Many restaurants were closed on Monday. Tamuje was really our only option, but the food there was excellent (make a reservation!) It's not really a tourist town, but the castle was fun. We walked most everywhere to explore the area surrounding our hotel.

The restaurant Alengarve does a fantastic sangria made from cider. Mertola is full of orange and lemon tress with stunning views. It is an hour away from beautiful beaches and there is even a beach resort by the river half an hour away. Serpa really deserves a visit too. There is a very nice couple with a really typical bar just off the corner , right beside the corner restaurant that serves wonderful cafe.

Mertola is a lovely town, with a lot of heritage.
Mertola is a lovely town, with a lot of heritage. Museums, a castle and a beautiful church. Nice clean streets to walk around. Enough cafe’s and restaurants. The countryside and views are amazing.
We will definitely be visiting again.

Mertola is a town with a long history.
Mertola is a town with a long history. Admission to the moorish castle on the top of the hill is free. The castle is interesting to explore and gives an excellent birdseye view of the area. Next to it there is a fine church that was originally built as a mosque. The old walled town is full of character and rewarding to explore.

Mertola has so much history that you always feel like you...
Mertola has so much history that you always feel like you didn’t spend enough time! Walking though the quiet streets of the historical center makes you want to relax and disconnect from the daily routines. Also interesting areas close by such as the Sao Domingo’s mines and Pomarao old mining port.

Interesting, authentic town/village, not touristy, but has...
Interesting, authentic town/village, not touristy, but has plenty or restaurants. Many hikes and great bird watching, in the national park ,many rarities! 20 mins drive away is probably one of the best beaches in Portugal, on the Albufeira Tapada Grande if you like inland,quiet beaches.

The accommodation was clean, spacious and characterful. The hosts were friendly. Located in beautiful natural surroundings not far to Mértola or lake/river swimming. The plunge pool was perfect on a hot day. A great stay.

The location with views across river to Mértola. Comfortable private terrace area. Pleasant gardens, plenty of sun beds around pool area. Lovely restaurant approximately 5 minutes walk away but not open every day.

this was a scam booking - this hotel ceased to exist 3 years ago , the new owner was fully booked and was hlpful - but he was fully booked already - so we had to find alternative accomadation

Spacious, comfortable and clean traditional house. Only five minutes drive from Mertola. The kitchen was very well appointed. Great communication and very easy check in.
