United StatesThe house has a modern interior complete with all the creature comforts (including a full kitchen, washer, satellite TV, AC, Wi-Fi). The host left a complimentary bottle of local red wine and water as welcome gifts. We could enter the house using a key stored in a convenient lock box and the host met us to show us the ins and outs of the home. The location centers you in the rural countryside of the Barroso region with downtown Montalegre a <10 min drive away with a castle and regional museum (both free!), shops, and restaurants. Closer to the house is access to the lake at Travassos da Chã, which we took advantage of to beat the afternoon summer heat. It’s also a short drive to Serra da Larouco (second highest point in Portugal, and you can drive to the top!), and Chaves (founded by Rome). Don’t miss the quick drive to Baltar, Spain, to try Octopus Galician style (pulpo a la gallego).

ChinaVery quiet, very remote place. Exceptional good food (from the village) for lunch and evening. Breakfast is not that big, but of extraordinary quality and taste. Staff is super friendly and supportive. Outstanding experience. Will come again.

We only visited Montalegre for a short period, but found...
We only visited Montalegre for a short period, but found time to walk around the town and castle which offered terrific panoramic views.
We would certainly visit this town again and perhaps stay over for a couple of days the next time that we are in the region.

Stunning location, wonderful staff, impeccable local food and drink. The facilities were well thought out and cared for from the lunge with the large terrace overlooking the lake to the infinity pool. Rooms were a nice size and all had a balcony to take advantage of the magnificent views. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful walks and impressive vistas wherever you looked. Quite magical place to immerse yourself in nature. We found it very hard to leave, I shall miss the quiet and the birdsong.

Home atmosphere, clean, good kitchen facilities and spacious eating area to prepare and eat breakfast, good location for Montalegre, walking distance to town center. However, rooms and bathrooom on the upper floor are quite small and not so comfortable..

This is a wonderful hotel on the side of the lake. The rooms were delightful, and we had a great view of the lake at sunset from our balcony. Staff super friendly and welcoming.
Good breakfast and would highly recommend.

A modern and functionally furnished smaller hotel with a beautiful location by the lake. It's a shame that the hotel restaurant wasn't open for dinner.
