Everything was great. The only thing I would recommend is that the breakfast food area be expanded. It is very small and does not accommodate enough people.

The staff at Capitol hotel were amazing, contacted us before our arrival and helped us arrange dinner reservations. The rooms were small but clean and had everything we needed. Very comfortable. The location was perfect right downtown for Capitola. Will definitely be returning.

Loved the location of course. The outside of the place is so cute. Bed was comfortable and the room had lots of space. The price was great considering I booked last minute. Staff was friendly and pleasant.

Amazing place. We were supposed to stay for one night but stayed for two. Room was excellent, bed comfy and the staff were helpful. Close to really cheap laundrette, do it yourself or leave it. We got a stack washed, dried and folded for $20.00. Coffee over the road, Petes from memory. Capitola was a gem of a surprise and we will definitely be back.

I picked up my son from UC Santa Cruz for the summer.

I picked up my son from UC Santa Cruz for the summer. I've stayed at other cheap hotels on Water Street, and never going back again, after staying here! I plan to stay here when I return in the fall. Do you have any rewards system?

Cute beach city.

Cute beach city. Its main beach (Capitola Beach) was super busy & had expensive parking. Capitola Village was pretty with lots of boutique stores & many eateries. The colorful houses were very photogenic. The waves at lower tide were probably good for beginning surfers & boogey-boarders. After you’ve explored Capitola, go to other nearby beaches. They were much less crowded, also beautiful (Natural Bridges, Manresa, etc.) & parking was at most $10/day. Some beaches like Lighthouse Beach had free parking.

Too much traffic.

Too much traffic. For a traveler it's impossible without a car with no kind of long distance public transportation option. Next time away for the water and the poor street design that promotes traffic congestion.

Capitola offers many good restaurants, and plenty of beaches...

Capitola offers many good restaurants, and plenty of beaches to visit. We went to the Moss Landing slew one day to watch the numerous birds. We ate at Cafe Cruz, and several other restaurants. We are not exactly a young couple, so we mostly like eating good food, and gazing at the Pacific. The weather was bright and sunny.

Of course, we may have missed what's on offer...

Of course, we may have missed what's on offer... Our hotel was on a busy road near shopping malls, boring chain food outlets and petrol stations, next to a noisy facility of some kind which beeps and crashes into action early in the morning. I hope there is more to Capitola, but our part was definitely NOT by the sea. If there is a better side, it's a pity the hotel didn't illustrate or explain this. If you're on business or visiting family - fine. On holiday looking for a stop by the ocean? Forget it.

Drab and musty. Needs better decor. Uncomfortable small bed and couches. Excellent location with view of ocean and ocean sights and sounds but overlooking a crappy roof first. No cookware, dishes or utensils in kitchen. Brown fake leather couches, cheap old pictures on the walls of Mediterranean?? Beige paint, dark brown carpet brown tables and more brown. Tiny shower. Spacious.
