For being so close to Denali State Park and being so reasonably price I was not expecting to have a stay this nice! The room was perfect for 3 people, the bathroom was a touch small but overall I can’t complain!

We stayed at the Backwoods Lodge during our trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks over Thanksgiving week 2025. The location was perfect — tucked away in a quiet spot yet convenient for exploring the area. The owners were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Our room was spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully decorated, making it a cozy retreat after long days on the road. They were flexible when we needed to adjust our reservation, which we really appreciated, and they provided plenty of helpful local tips about dining, sightseeing, and travel conditions. It’s clear they genuinely care about their guests’ experience. Overall, Backwoods Lodge exceeded our expectations. If you’re traveling through Alaska and want a comfortable stay with genuine hospitality, this is the place to book.

What Guests Said About Denali:

Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.0

Bus trip into the park was great.

Bus trip into the park was great. We were lucky enough to see bears, caribou, moose and lots of little critters. Also were fortunate to see Denali as the clouds lifted. Don't go with high expectations of seeing bears, wildlife and the mountain. Everything is a little unpredictable with weather. Really enjoyed Jeff King's Husky Homestead only 2 miles away. Jeff does a great job explaining sled dog racing and plenty of time allowed with the puppies. 49th State Brewery just up the road was good for food and drinks.
