This is a beautiful historic hotel with stunning grounds. We had a view of the gardens and bridge behind the hotel. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious. Our server was friendly and made our experience a lot of fun. Staff was all friendly and welcoming. I wish we could have stayed longer. Great place to stay if you are exploring the Redwoods.

Very friendly staff, particularly the manager (Stephanie?). My teenage daughter and I were there for the marathon and this was a great place to spend the night before. Very accommodating with a late check out to allow us to shower and change before heading home. Would definitely stay again.

The Redwoods are a beautiful and peaceful place to visit and experience. When you're hungry, don't miss the Woodrose Cafe on the main drag in town. It is a delicious, friendly and casual restaurant for a memorable meal.

Garberville is what it is.

Garberville is what it is. It's a boomtown that lost it's boom with the legalization of marijuana. Town has gone steadily downhill for the past 5-10 years, and it's now just a place to get gas ($6.25 a gallon when the rest of the world is charging $5.29-$5.89) and pass through. Too bad. It sits on the boundary of some really beautiful country (12 miles north). The El Cora restaurant (just off the main street behind the Best Western at the north end of town) was pretty decent for small-town Mexican food. I'd do the Chili Verde and a couple cold Modelos again !

Set right near Humboldt Redwoods State Park, you can hardly find a more beautiful place to stay. There are lots and lots of hikes in the redwood forests nearby. There's are also rivers, and even the sea is not far away.

The hiking trails in Humboldt park nearby, which is the reason to go to the Benbow Inn, are beautiful. There are easy, moderate, and hard trails, so there is something for everyone. The park is clean and there are many picnic areas. Be sure and stop by the Visitor Center to get a map and information about trail status before heading out. The town of Garberville near the Benbow Inn has a couple gas stations and cafes but unfortunately also has quite a few borderline looking bums hanging out (likely stoned). Although most are likely harmless, I would be hesitant to leave anything in my car to go eat or shop.

Garberville is a tiny little town close to the Avenue of the Giants which is what we came for. It has only a couple restaurants and a nice grocery store. Most folks are friendly, it was a little crowded due to the amount of construction workers staying in town that were working on nearby highway and road repair. I would love to go back to see the Redwoods and when I do I will stay here again.

Garberville is one of the larger small towns in the heart of redwood country along US-101. It makes for a convenient stopover while on a road trip but really nothing more than that. The town is way past its prime. We saw more transients walking the streets than locals or visitors during our overnight stay,

They wouldn’t feed us even though we were staying at their expensive hotel, even though the dining room was half full with plenty of empty tables. They have no policy to serve meals to hotel guests.
