This hotel is a gem! Beautifully designed and in a great location. Walking distance to shops, cafes, and restaurants. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Especially with my request. FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.

In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!

SF is still suffering from the Covid years.

SF is still suffering from the Covid years. Many restaurants are still not open and the City is no way near as vibrant as it was before Covid. It continues to get better to be there, but it still needs time to catch up. Still many things to see and do, but I don’t think it is a vital fun place right now. Museums, Crissey Field, Stern Grove concerts, theater and access to Napa and other areas are all still there, but City feels a bit dead. Wait a bit more time before visiting if you want the real SF experience.

The city has definitely seen better days.

The city has definitely seen better days. The city is very dirty overall and streets smelly (human and dog excrement everywhere (even outside the tenderloin) and a serious homelessness problem. The city does a lackluster job of cleaning streets or sidewalks. There are many vacant storefronts even in the better neighborhoods. Years ago we went to SFO for shopping and dining. Now the restaurants are not as good and most of the good shopping is gone. The outer areas across the bay are still nice however avoid Oakland at all cost it looks like a war zone and is dangerous.

Lovely, beautiful and vibrant city.

Lovely, beautiful and vibrant city. History, fun, adventure all bundled together in an extraordinary package. You can just sit for hours watching sea on clean beaches, be in aura of Golden gate bridge, walk up and down on beautiful, curvy roads, hear bands playing or see people shopping. Smile alone or smile with people. Absolute Joy. Special mention to the driver who took us on the city tour - his knowledge and attitude was awesome.

When the weather is good then San Francisco is an Awesome place. Seeing Alcatraz and Pier 39 and The Wharf and that whole surrounding area are all Great and are definitely worth seeing. When it’s raining and cold and windy though, it’s not worth going there. Plan ahead to go there during the good weather months.

San Francisco is a must-see destination.

San Francisco is a must-see destination. I'd visited the city often early in my career, but I hadn't been back since before the pandemic, when I experienced the beginnings of an unhoused population that was about to get worse. Thankfully, I saw very little of that, and it seems to be very well managed today, especially in the tourist areas. San Francisco has so much to offer for both first-time tourists and frequent visitors. My trip included a combination of both: Alcatraz, walking through Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Chinatown, but also exploring lesser-known museums and more locals-oriented parks like Francisco Park, the Presidio and Golden Gate Park. Public transportation is easy: I felt comfortable taking the underground MUNI and above ground buses; the BART train to SFO couldn't have been easier.

Located in the heart of San Francisco adjacent to Union Square, very close to cable car and tram services. Lovely hotel with extremely accommodating staff. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at about 10am and were able to check-in to our room, even though stated check-in time was not until 3pm. A great stay. Although we didn't use it (it was a little cool when we were in San Fran) the pool area looked lovely with plenty of lounges and a sparkling clean pool.

The Chancellor is a beautiful hotel within easy walking distance of Moscone Center. I love the Union Square neighborhood with all its restaurants and shopping. My room was perfect for one person, comfortable beds, clean bathroom, ample closet space. Basically everything you could want in a San Francisco hotel.
