Houghton Lake is a wonderful "Up North" destination!
Houghton Lake is a wonderful "Up North" destination! Fabulous warm
and shallow lake, great for boating, swimming, fishing, or just to sit and look at. The main road M55 has just been repaved and marked. Quaint shops like The Rocking Chair Gifts (great fudge), Morning Glory Mercantile, Under the Windmill, & Arnies make shopping fun! Great food at the following restaurants: Powell's, Shakers, Lakeside Bar and Grill, Buccellis Pizza, Garretts, Randy;s. The Pines Theatre is the MOST unique theatre I've ever been to. Lots of golf! They hold a great Arts and Craft show over all 3 summer holiday weekends. This is "My Happy Place"!

For great food and service try: Powell Family Restaurant, Bucellis Pizza, Shakers, Little Boots Diner, Lakeside Bar and Grill. Rocking Chair Gift shop is a must for the fudge and souveneirs, Pines Theatre is worth the visit just to see the inside. Sno Queen for ice cream. Lots of cute shops. They recently repaved and remarked the whole strip of M55 through Houghton Lake area and so the driving is nice. The lake is beautiful, the water is comfortable to swim and play in with sandy beaches. This is a wonderful place for a family vacation!

We fished three area lakes; Houghton Lake, Higgins Lake, and...
We fished three area lakes; Houghton Lake, Higgins Lake, and St. Helen Lake. We ordered Bucilli's Pizza, shopped at Walmart. and Harbor Freight. We also took a scenic drive around Houghton Lake on Route 300. We saw a lot of wildlife and took pictures of sunsets. Houghton Lake is a very sleepy town during the week and picks up in activity on the weekends. We arrived on a Monday and fished for four days, leaving on Friday morning.

The room was ok not happy with the breakfast and not happy no hot water in my room or jacuzzi and water slide was not turned on into 830 at night and pool closes at 10 the only thing that was great was the restaurant there but I wouldn’t recommend wasting money to go there again I wasted money got king suite I could got a regular room since no hot water in jacuzzi or shower

Wish the water park was cleaner. Bottom had bandaids, hair ties, and saw actual small turds. Water is murky with particles not clear. Black sludge up on railing at top of slide. Pretty gross. All the tubes were flat, nothing for lazy river. Just needs more care/cleaning. Don't think it was like this before COVID. 😢 Also very disappointed in the food from bar/restaurant especially for the price. Room and Staff are especially nice.

Houghton Lake is a beautiful large lake with beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The water is shallow and warm and good for swimming, playing in the sand, boating, etc. The area is very quaint with lots of cute restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend the following restaurants: Powell's, Bucelli's, Lakeside Bar and Grill, and Shakers. The Beachfront Hotel is very nice. Perfect vacation spot!

Hotel was easy to get to. Right off the main road that wasn't overly busy. My room was very clean and fresh smelling. Breakfast had limited options but what was available was good. The beach area was well taken care of. You could tell it has been recently raked. The staff was absolutely amazing. I was traveling alone and had a few requests because of a medical condition. They happily listened and reassure me that they would handle things if a situation were to arise.

The Housekeeper and front desk staff were so friendly, they loved our Frenchie we took on vacation with us. This hotel is very pet friendly and that is hard to find! Also, the pool and hot tub are wonderful, even though the pool is not heated and a tad chilly. The family has so much fun just coming back after adventures to relax.

Everything about this hotel was amazing. If you ever needed a place to stay this is where I would recommend. The beds, the pillows, the pool, the hot tub, the staff, the breakfast. Every single thing about this hotel is wonderful. Not a single bad thing to say about this place.
