Michigan

Michigan’s headline attraction is its Great Lakes coastline – more freshwater shoreline than any other U.S. state. Known for sandy beaches, towering dunes, and boat-filled harbors, it delivers easygoing lake life and outdoor adventures for families and single travelers.

Top highlights are Sleeping Bear Dunes and the wild, rugged Upper Peninsula with Pictured Rocks and waterfalls. Don’t miss a ferry to car-free Mackinac Island to cycle the historic shores. Stay in Detroit for museums and Motown, Traverse City for wineries and nearby family beaches, and Mackinaw City as the ferry gateway.

Our room was very large and clean. The beds were very comfy. The TV was great as well as the WIFI connection. We loved having the Keurig coffee maker and K-cups in the room. We also took advantage of the additional hot cider and hot chocolate K-cups available at the front desk every evening. We enjoyed the large pool and hot tub in the evening after a long day of hiking. Our room faced the pool, but we did not have a problem with loud voices after quiet hours.

I love the atmosphere of the city.
Mackinaw City

I love the atmosphere of the city. I am usually not into touristy places but this one is different. There is so much to see and do. I especially like sitting and watching the bridge with the sunsets. Absolutely gorgeous every time. A trip to the island never disappoints as well.

Traverse City

Beside the town itself being cute with great restaurants, easily walkable and fun, it is perfectly located as a base for several day trips--the peninsula just to the north has vineyards with wine and cider. The views are beautiful and the light house is cool. Then, to the west is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. After checking out it was a beautiful, not too long drive along with coast over the Mackinac bridge. Great location!!

Saint Ignace

Unfortunately, our stay was short and we didn't spend much time in St. Ignace. It was a good place to get the ferry to Mackinaw Island. A big plus was that the Arnold ferry sent a shuttle to pick us up at the motel and was waiting to drive us back when we returned from the island. Very convenient, quick, and complementary!

Detroit

Love the city it was easy to get around and I did not have enough time to see everything I wanted too. People were very nice and helpful everywhere I visited. If you drive you will fall in love with the roads .. so easy to quickly get to where you want to go as long as there is no construction in the area. Fox Theatre was mindblowing . The Detroit institute of arts was so great , so much art from so many famous artist. I wasn't solo because I was visiting family so I had a great time and I love Detroit . It still has a small town vibe even though its a large city.

Grand Rapids

The carpets had a raunchy smell that they sprayed overpowering air fresheners on. Tile floors were sticky, urine around toilets, kitchen lack luster...had no fry pans or oven- ---drawer for silverware was stuck, but we finally got it open. Beds were ok, although I didnt sleep in the covers cause the carpet smell was so off putting it made me think nothing was clean. Heating/ cooling between the rooms was imbalanced leaving half of us overheated and the other half freezing- no good sleep. Mirrors were hazed and had spray from previous use. No fry pans in kitchen. Soaps quality was good. .Smell was overpowering and off putting. Didn't try the breakfast or pool...just generally didnt trust it with the smell and cleanliness issue. Personnel were super nice, helpful and kind. Best part of my stay!

Ann Arbor

The University Art Museum and Archeological museums are outstanding. Many intriguing shops, including bookstores, and restaurants, and of course the iconic Zingerman's Delicatessen. Don't miss the Washtenaw Dairy for ice cream and a relaxing walk around the Old West Side neighborhood. The Law School Quad is a very traditional space, with a magnificent library, and the new Business School building was wide open to look around and appreciate how the technology of education has improved. For American history buffs, there is also the Gerald Ford library, with good reminders about the history of his Presidency.

It was 4th of July so prime time. Yoga by the pier, rowers on the lake, people walking/running and lots of dogs! The hotel is a great place to view the fireworks and easy access to the walking path that leads to the lighthouse, marina and other landmarks. Love Marquette 😀

Munising

I took the shipwreck cruise and the Pictured Rocks cruise the same day. The shipwreck cruise got me so excited to see more Pictured Rocks that I booked my ticket on the ride back to the dock! The town is small and easy to navigate. Everyone I encountered from gas station attendants to restaurant staff and gift shop employees was friendly. I got a veggie pasty from Muldoon's. They do takeout and I think you can buy them frozen to take home. They were sold out of the chicken pasties, so they must be good!

Holland

Beautiful/ exceptional park. Wizard of Oz display was very nice / fun. Shopping was excellent and very fun. Downtown seemed very safe.. Didn't have children with us but water park downtown looked very fun and safe Downtown was beautiful. The two beaches we went to were wonderful. At State Park, where everyone had to be out right after sunset was very rushed and people were rude, and it seemed like an unsafe and very crowded way to leave.

Ludington

I traveled here earlier this week for vacation, I ended up spending two nights in Ludington. Plenty of sights to see, whether it's the beaches, the lighthouses, the Port of Ludington Maritime Museum, or the Historic White Pine Village. The traffic isn't terrible and it's easy to drive around. Make sure to go downtown, there are plenty of stores and it's a safe place to walk. There are some great breweries down James Street as well. Make sure to go to Ludington Bay Brewing Company.
