What Guests Said About Mackinac Island:

We loved the relaxed vibe and no cars.

We loved the relaxed vibe and no cars. We brought our bikes and enjoyed exploring the entire island by bike. Food and lodging are expensive, but tons of outdoor activities that are free or low cost. We ate at Pink Pony. Overrated. Great Turtle-best service. Brook was amazing! White fish and meatloaf were great. Watercolor cafe for lunch-cool place! Smoothies were delicious and loved the painting supplies on the tables to create your own masterpiece. Ice House BBQ is worth it. Woodfire pizza is top notch and huge salads that were fantastic. Pleasantly surprised by selection and low prices at Doud's Market. The Fort was worth the tour. Enjoyed the hospital exhibit and reading some of the letters from officer's family. Loved seeing the Boy scouts volunteering there and enjoyed chatting with them. Enjoyed Arch rock, the secret garden and butterflies of Mackinaw. Very cool. Of course you have to take home some fudge. All delicious. JoAnn's was our favorite for taste and delightful staff. .

Mackinac Island is a unique experience.

Mackinac Island is a unique experience. Everyone should go at least once. Quaint, walkable, historic, gorgeous nature/horses/bike rides. The "no cars" makes for a relaxed vibe (though the main downtown area shops can be very crowded during the day). This is not a place for nightlife, they roll up the sidewalks between 9 and 10 pm every day. :) Very chill. Great place to enjoy a bike ride, s'mores with family, touring historic buildings, taking a horse drawn carriage ride through the national forest ... 2-3 days here and you can see it all.

The beauty of Mackinac Island is breathtaking.

The beauty of Mackinac Island is breathtaking. The weather the two days we were there was absolutely Pure Michigan at its best. I've been coming to the Island since I was a child and it is special each and every time I go. Riding bikes, taking horse-drawn taxis, walking through natural beauty and so much history, plus all the wonderful restaurants available, and don't forget Ryba's fudge, make the experience outstanding every time. Be aware of high ferry prices to get to the island, however. These have gone up considerably in the past few years.

The Island is BEAUTIFUL!!!

The Island is BEAUTIFUL!!! Love the old charm feel but the hospitality needs improvement I was actually shocked on how unfriendly most of the workers were Not sure if they were over the season and just wanted to leave the island but it was very noticeable From food servers to bartenders to housekeeping, there was no interaction, no conversing, I was quite taken aback by it

I loved that there is so much to explore.

I loved that there is so much to explore. So much to do and not a day passes where you need to get in a vehicle or worry about being hit by a vehicle on the road. Cars are not allowed. People ride bikes, walk, or travel by horse drawn carriages. We spent our whole trip outside: walking everywhere in the sunshine, sightseeing and it seems there’s a beautiful scene around every corner. Mackinac Island is not for people who don’t like crowds because in downtown, it gets crowded; however, if you are staying overnight you will see in the late evenings, it’s not as busy. Also, if you stay in a more affluent hotel farther out from downtown you can avoid the crowds. We wanted to be in the heart of the activity so we stayed in downtown.

Mackinac Island is amazing especially during the Lilac...

Mackinac Island is amazing especially during the Lilac Festival. My friend and I decided on Mackinac because of it being an Island where you can get lost in time! We loved staying at The Murray Hotel, the only thing about our room was the shower. It didn’t have a slip proof mat in it and we’re both seniors with canes, so that was scary to get a shower. Otherwise, we definitely loved it! The breakfast in their restaurant was so good! They made us fresh omelets to order! The Island has no motor vehicles so that was a plus to be able to book a tour of the island in a horsedrawn carriage. We had both lost our husband a couple years ago and so I suggested the island because my husband and I had been there besides many trips over the past 30 years with other family members.
