FAQs about hotels in Washington, D.C.

A World Icon

Featuring tons of national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booked through Booking.com.

DC is a fun, walkable city with great public transportation. Lots of museums and historical monuments to see. A great food scene, great bar and club scene and live music venues. Great place to visit in all seasons though I recommend going in the summer and fall months.

Other than don't stay at Motto, there are numerous good places to visit. The Metro is a great way to get around. Visiting Arlington and the Changing of the Guard is a must. My fine dining go to place is Rose's Luxury. I go to the Navy Memorial and Heritage Center every year and the Navy Band Concert on the Avenue on Tuesday evenings during the summer. Both are free. The Evening Parade at the Marine Corps base (at 8th and I st.), is something to see at least once. It's free but I suggest making a reservation.

We loved that our hotel was close to all and that there were a variety of food choices for us. The Metro is great but you have to tap your CC to get in and out of the system. They charge you based on the distance you travel. We felt very safe walking around the city. Plenty of national guards standing around everywhere.

We enjoyed the Nat Mall attractions. the Old trolley is not reliable late in the day. we chased it for a mile and it never stopped to load us. It was great until that incident. walking the city felt safe with so many National Guard. we didnt know there were few restaurants in this part of town. Book tours when offered.

Excellent place to stay. Clean, great location, friendly staff. I have been staying here for last 3 years, only issue is the AC makes loud noise and difficult to get sleep! Get a room where the AC system is away from the bed.

First of all, there is so much to see and do in Washington,...

First of all, there is so much to see and do in Washington, D.C. that is either free or very affordable that you could probably spend a week here and still not mark everything off of the list. It's a great destination for families or those traveling without kids. The Metro system is clean, quick, and safely got us around the city and even to points further out in Virginia without any issues. The Smithsonian museums are unbelievable and you could probably make an entire day out of each one. We walked the monuments at night after the heat of the day and were surprised how busy and popular they were even at 10pm. Meals here are not cheap though! Be prepared to pay a premium on everything from a hot dog to a slice of pizza. We tried to split meals or conserve leftovers for future meals to keep costs reasonable. If your driving into D.C., I highly recommend finding a long-term garage, parking, and leaving your car and using the amazing public transportation system or traveling by foot. We logged 15-miles of walking in one day! We will be back.

The location is great. It’s pricey for what you get, but relative to other hotels in the same area, it’s still much cheaper. If it wasn’t in this location, you probably wouldn’t stay here. Bed and pillows were comfortable. I like the architecture of the building. The rooms tend to be small, but I actually like that. The showers are nice. I don't know if rooms have tubs. I’ve stayed here a couple of times and would do so again.

A very simple but nice and clean hotel in a calm area though walkable distance to the city - 30 mins to walk to the White House. The stuff was very polite. They have coffee and tea 24/7 in the lobby. The room was spacious with 2 queen beds. There is an iron in the room. Everything is a little bit old fashioned, but very clean, tidy and it’s really worth the price. I would pick this place for my next trip to Washington D.C. for sure.

Outdated, not very clean yet super expensive. There are cheaper hotels in the area with much better quality of everything. One person at the reception doing everything in this huge hotel, so every time you need something, you queue for ages. Everything is old and outdated in the room, breakfast is terribly expensive. Overall not worth the money I spent.
