Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) Information

Location and Transport

Washington Dulles International Airport is located in the Loudoun and Fairfax counties, 27 miles (45 kilometres) west of Washington DC. Although this may seem far, the airport is well-connected by public transport. The direct Silver Line Express Bus service departs every 20 minutes, while local buses provide a cheaper but slower option. Taking a taxi into Downtown can cost up to USD 60, but getting out before the bridge will bring the rate down.

Passengers with scheduled layovers or unexpected delays can find accommodation in Dulles Airport or nearby towns like Herdon. There’s plenty of pre-flight entertainment in the airport, with regular art and photography exhibitions, as well as live performances by musicians, singers and dancers. The lighting in the room need improvement, too dark. House keeping didn't come at all on the 1st full day. No vending machine. Wasn't given water at check in or in the room. Had to pay $4 for it at the desk. Housekeeping didn't vacuum my room or sweep or mop the bathroom.The service at the counter needs improvement. Need a restaurant in there. I was tired & hungry & had to go out to find food. Parking should be complimentary since it's not a secured parking lot. I wasn't happy with my stay. It wasn't what I expected from the pictures.

city is close to the airport, put i found that the hotels with shuttle bus service , they don't work frequently, they work when needed, and they work for a certain hours, so early or late flights are not covered by the shuttle bus service. If a costumer at airport, he needs to call the hotel so they will send him the shuttle bus. then he has to wait till the bus arrive to the airport....

I loved the Sterling, Virginia area.

I loved the Sterling, Virginia area. There was so much to do in the surrounding areas of Arlington, Ashburn, and beyond. I absolutely loved the facilities, the friendliness of the people, the walks, going to the gym, and the communities!

It's easy to take a train or bus and visit historical...

It's easy to take a train or bus and visit historical centers or DC. The area itself is quiet with enough to do to keep you entertained. I like to plan for day trips to areas that may be 45 mins away and then come back and enjoy the evening in Reston since it's more affordable, accessible, and quiet. The Reston Town Center is great for food, nightlife, drinks, and necessities. I'd avoid staying too far from public transportation here.

If you want a cheap hotel near Dulles Airport, this is the place for you. But don't expect much. Everything is old and outdated. The elevator did not work. There was a towel wrapped around the bathroom sink to soak-up water from the leaking sink.

Excellent, but check the status of the pool on the hotels webpage. Booking.com wasn’t notified of the pool closure for over a tear. Nice local strip mall type restaurants and huge grocery store just behind the hotel.

Several restaurants in the area around the hotel. The hotel is very close to IAD, so it’s very convenient. The National Air & Space Museum is nearby. It’s about a 40 minute drive to Harper’s Ferry National Park and the many vineyards in its surrounding area.

Beautiful, vey clean city - located near DC. Great restaurants, great outdoor. Due to COVID the Reston taxi location does not longer exist, difficult to get a taxi, especially for tourists who have no American SIM card.

Rooms were budget friendly, clean, and the beds were semi comfortable. To be honest, I do not sleep very well anywhere except at home in my own bed. On the downside, as a senior citizen I found the room lighting to be rather dim. There were lamps positioned all around the room but no overhead ceiling lights. The bathroom vanity lighting was especially weak, it was challenging to shave or in my wife's case, to put on makeup. The shower/toilet area is opened directly to the sink and vanity area making it difficult to have privacy at times. The bathroom door is textured glass and if you get up at night and turn on the bathroom light it will shine right through the door and directly into the bed. As strange as it may sound, it was too dim with all the lights on and too dark with all the lights out. Bring a night light, at least you can find your way to the bathroom without waking up your spouse.

My stay was good though there were a few mishaps. For example we had some false alarms three days in a row with caused the customers to scramble out the building. One of those false alarms occured very early in the morning and woke all of us up.There were also a few times situations whete my room entry door card wouldn't work and I would to go to the clerk to have it fixed. I wish also the fitness center would have more equipment and the hotel market more products. I also wish there were more shops or restaurants near the hotel other than Taco Bell and Chick Filet. Overall I had quite a good experience.
