Our Dragonview was fantastic. We had an amazing holiday. The service from the management team and all the staff was workd-class. The food at the restaurant is delicious. The menu has good variety. The view is absolutely magnificent. The layout of the hotel is great. The entertainment for the kids is more than sufficient, between a rock pool, indoor pool, foosball table arcade, and PlayStation for the older kids and a very creative and fun playground area for smaller kids. You cannot go wrong booking at this hotel.

We had an exceptional stay. Chris and Magda were warm, gracious, and genuinely thoughtful in every detail. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt welcomed and well looked after. The setting is serene and peaceful, with stunning views of the mountains and the lake right from the property. It was so calm and beautiful that we often had to push ourselves to leave and explore the area because it was so tempting to simply stay and enjoy the surroundings. The accommodation itself is beautifully kept, with impeccable housekeeping and a level of care in how everything is thoughtfully appointed that immediately stands out. Chris and Magda truly have hosting down to an art form. This is easily the best place we’ve stayed in South Africa and one of the best anywhere in our travels around the world. Chris, Magda: Thank you so very much for making our time there so memorable. We look forward to staying with you again. Cheryl & Mani

FAQs about hotels in Champagne Valley

What Guests Said About Champagne Valley:

Scored out of 10, guest rating 10

What I liked:

What I liked: The scenery is absolutely spectacular, with picture-perfect views in every direction. There is an impressive variety of activities to enjoy, many of which don’t involve hiking or climbing the mountains, making the area suitable for everyone. The peaceful atmosphere and stunning landscapes alone make it well worth the visit. What I didn’t like: The roads into the valley are in relatively poor condition, so allow an extra 30 to 45 minutes for travel. I would also recommend withdrawing cash at the ATM in Winterton before entering the valley, as the local ATMs frequently run out of cash. Neither issue detracted from the experience, but planning ahead will make your trip more enjoyable.

There was plenty to do and see in the area.

There was plenty to do and see in the area. I went for the Berg Hot Air Balloon festival at Berg Air Lifestyle Centre and thoroughly enjoyed the hot air balloons and all that was on offer in the area. Even visited Falcon Ridge Raptor centre for a wonderful raptor show. Enjoyed the artisanal sour dough bread from Valley Bakery and stopped by Scrumpy Jacks for some honey and preserves.

The hospitality was very welcoming by the manager nd staff on-site. Improve on the parking, and also the rondavles parking. Clear the bushes in front of the rondavales and create proper parking facility.

The Champagne Castle area in the Central Drakensberg is one...

The Champagne Castle area in the Central Drakensberg is one of the most beautiful and relaxing destinations in South Africa. Surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery, it offers a peaceful escape with fresh air, incredible hiking trails, and breathtaking views in every direction. The area caters for all kinds of travellers, with a wide variety of accommodation options ranging from luxury hotels and family resorts to cosy self-catering cottages and backpacker lodges. One of the highlights of staying in the area is how close everything is while still feeling wonderfully secluded. There are lovely local shopping spots, cafés, craft stores, restaurants, and activity centres dotted throughout Champagne Valley and nearby Winterton, making it easy to explore without the area feeling overcrowded. The natural beauty is simply outstanding. Champagne Castle itself is one of the iconic peaks in the Drakensberg, and the surrounding region offers access to famous hiking areas like Monk’s Cowl, waterfalls, trout fishing, horse riding, and birdlife. Whether you want adventure or complete relaxation, the area delivers both perfectly. A definite must-see is the world-famous Drakensberg Boys Choir. Their performances are truly unforgettable and add something very special to a visit to the area. The combination of musical talent, atmosphere, and mountain setting makes it a unique experience that many visitors describe as a highlight of their trip. Overall, Champagne Castle is the perfect destination for anyone wanting a scenic, peaceful getaway with excellent accommodation choices, friendly hospitality, beautiful surroundings, and plenty to do at your own pace.

The Birds of Prey show is out of those world! It is fascinating to see what these birds are capable of and to learn more about their behaviours in the wild. Other than that the area is beautiful. One of South Africa’s gems!
