Rustic and remote, yet peaceful and tranquil. Steve is a gem of a human being, besides being a culinary expert. His meals are exceptional. Cottages have stunning sea views.

The coastal scenery including Hole in the Wall is...

The coastal scenery including Hole in the Wall is magnificent. The road conditions were good but caution has to be exercised because of speed humps and animals. Facilities at beaches are in line with a very remote location. Local "Tourist guides" tend to pester you to try an earn some income in an area where employment prospects are essentially non existent. Safety was not a problem

Very small and rural.

Very small and rural. Mapuzi and Hole in the Wall are must sees. Most places don't have water. When booking be sure to ask if they have borehole or water tanks. No shops, only spaza shops with extreme basics. Be sure to fill your tank at every garage enroute. The roads are really bad so don't attempt a trip if you're not traveling in a 4x4, especially during the rainy season. It's a really long trip from JHB, so brace yourself. BUT the beaches are truly beautiful and the area is very safe. You don't feel as if you're going to be hijacked / robbed every minute of the day.

Amazing place to visit...

Amazing place to visit... Just be sure to get yourself a 4WD or 4x4 if you plan to go to Hole in the Wall. The off road tires are a must have for the gravel heading to Hole in the Wall. What a wonderful place, the Boiling Point is also a great sighting not to be missed when you're there.

Beautiful place, very wild and untouched.

Beautiful place, very wild and untouched. But means nothing if you can't go to the beach. Does not feel safe and you get followed by locals who are always harassing you for money. We had two locals following us and making phone calls even though we changed our route multiple times to try and loose them, they persisted in following us. Lots of the routes to the beaches and around the beaches are though forests and there are always locals loitering around there and they always engage you even if you say no. We also had a local who approached us on the beach and said he will wait for us by our hotel gate when we told he we didn't have money on us. Which means he was watching us already.

Coffee Bay is beautiful but neglected & poor.

Coffee Bay is beautiful but neglected & poor. Hole-in-the-Wall is beautiful. Roads best to be travelled during daylight - some gravel areas, free-roaming cattle, goats & sheep that cross as will. Take own food & bottled water. Restaurants serve food but offerings are limited as replenishing supplies does not happen on daily rotation so be flexible about what you expect to find. We had no Vodacom service but had MTN reception. To see Hole-In-The-Wall (HIW), go to the hotel for a coffee before /after your walk & so you can park at hotel & prevent from being accosted by locals wanting to act as unwanted guides. Be mindful that locals will just join you as you walk to HIW, we did not ask for directions/ask him to be our guide nor did he ask if he can be our guide - but he did ask R 150.00 pp for a 15min walk when we returned to the hotel after walking to HIW (which we did not pay) & he did say with that he has done working for the day - 9H45. If you feel you want to be guided, best to negotiate a price upfront. There are beautiful areas to hike & run along the coast, also gravel roads along the coast for trail running/walking.

The scenery was very good.

The scenery was very good. The town Coffee Bay needs a good cleaning from rubbish lying around. Damaged pipes for drinking should be repaired soon after the flood. Maintenence of the road to the hole in the wall lies still half finished for years despite requests of the community.

This lovely hotel boasts amazing sea views from almost all angles of the property. We spotted dolphins and whales during our stay. The restaurant staff went out their way to accommodate our strict vegetarian diet and the skilled chefs served delicious meals daily. We loved the beautiful scenic hike trails. Staff is friendly and helpful. A big thank you to Belinda and team for giving attention to detail and making our stay so special. I will definitely return to Green Fields Hotel.

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a fantastic experience. The hosts were amazing. From the minute we arrived Betina ensured we had the best experience. She was friendly, helpful and professional and genuinely wanted to make sure people enjoyed their time in Coffee Bay. The room had a fantastic view over the bay and was clean and comfortable. We stayed at the guest house for our evening meal and breakfast which were both lovely. Definitely the place to stay if you visit this area.

Incredible location, perched up on the hill just outside of Coffee bay. Morning views are sensational, with the occasional rooster crow as you sip your coffee. Fully equipped kitchenette and super friendly and helpful host Steve to make the stay all the more comfortable. Sensational :))
