I wanted to share my full experience with Rhino Plains as I feel it is by far the best lodge I have ever stayed at. Carol runs a beautiful place with the help of Nisa, who is always there asking how she can make your stay better, and Solly, who is an incredibly knowledgeable tracker and fun driver/guide. His knowledge of wildlife behavior is out of this world; he can track animals from miles away while making your journey to find them an exciting one. To him, it is all a game of chase, and he will make sure to keep you entertained. The lodge also suggested Dean to me as a driver from Johannesburg to the reserve's West Gate. Dean was fun, and he has the best playlist ever to sing along to on your over 3-hour drive. I was lucky to see Rhinos, Zebras, Buffaloes, Hippos, a Lion (twice), Giraffes, Elephants, Warthogs, Antelopes, and more. The lodge has its own waterhole that is constantly visited by animals big and small. During my last dinner, I enjoyed a group of 10 elephants eating and playing by the waterhole while I ate my dinner. I can't think of a better dinner view. We had a beautiful tea time in the reserve surrounded by zebras, and every time I woke up from my nap in my beautifully decorated room, I could see a ton of monkeys staring at me. I found this place by asking ChatGPT to list the best 5 safari lodges in South Africa, and I can tell you, it was not wrong. The food is delicious, made to your preference, and if weather allows, there is a common pool in front of the waterhole and a small one by each room. Every single detail is exquisite, designed for your comfort, with good taste and in perfect harmony with the natural environment. This is a bucket list wish fulfilled and I certainly hope to go back.

Ndlovu is a stunning property. The facilities are first class. The lavish villas have abundant private indoor and outdoor spaces to relax (and cool off - the plunge pool overlooking the river was a real treat). Fancy a bath? You’ll have to decide between the enormous indoor tub, or the stylish outdoor clawfoot bath. The beds are super comfortable - fans, air-con and mosquito nets ensure a peaceful sleep. The main lodge spaces are just as inviting. Multiple places to relax (on the deck, watching the ever-entertaining zebras, warthogs, kudu), by the main pool, or inside the lounge. The staff are exceptional. Our guide, April, was extremely knowledgeable and generous with his expertise. As well as amazing sightings of a huge range of animals, we learned about the properties of various plants, about how the environment was being managed, and various tidbits about animal behaviour. An unbeatable experience. Timmy managed the food and beverage service at the lodge like a star. Warm and friendly service (and maker of an excellent gin and tonic with a twist!). Absolute highlight of our trip to South Africa.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Royal Morubisi...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Royal Morubisi Founders Lodge, and I must say it was an experience of a lifetime. This magnificent big 5 game reserve truly lives up to its reputation as a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left, I was captivated by the stunning beauty of the lodge and the remarkable wildlife encounters. The lodge itself is a masterpiece of architectural design, seamlessly blending with its natural surroundings. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the property, from the luxurious accommodations to the inviting communal areas. The lodges are spacious, elegantly furnished, and offer breathtaking views of the reserve. Each room is equipped with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing stay. The heart of Royal Morubisi Founders Lodge lies in its commitment to conservation and preserving the natural habitat. The knowledgeable and passionate staff took great pride in sharing their extensive knowledge of the wildlife and ecosystems. The game drives led by expert guides were an absolute highlight. We embarked on thrilling safaris, where we had the privilege of observing the magnificent big 5 animals up close. The encounters with lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffalos were truly awe-inspiring and left an indelible mark on my soul. Apart from the game drives, the lodge offers various other activities to make the most of the natural wonders surrounding it. Guided bushwalks provided an opportunity to explore the reserve on foot, immersing ourselves in the sights, sounds, and scents of the African wilderness. The birdwatching opportunities were exceptional, with an array of colorful and rare species to be found. The dining experience at Royal Morubisi Founders Lodge was exceptional, surpassing all expectations. The talented chefs created delectable meals that showcased the flavors of the region, using locally sourced ingredients.
