Make sure to get for dinner the sukiyaki, it was one of the best meals we’ve had on our Japan trip! The host was also very friendly and spoke English very well. He even helped us organize e-bikes to explore Atera Valley. The futons were also very comfortable, can highly recommend!

Everything was so organized! They gave us a camping kit with everything we needed to start a fire, understand the basics of camping and have a comfortable stay. Very thoughtful! The main house is also very clean and was very well equipped. The camping is right by the Nakasendo trail and a perfect stop to rest between Magome and Nojiri.

My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience.The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

Wonderful hosts and attentive to your needs. The home and its surroundings are absolutely stunning. We were the only guests for one night as we were hiking up to Narai the following day. The dinner meal course was an unforgettable culinary delight. Our brief stay was one of the best cultural experiences we had in Japan and I can only imagine Takimi Onsen during peak fall season in its magnificent glory.

Amazing place with an incredible view. Staff were really helpful and even picked us up at the Nagiso JR Station. Really good breakfast and sake left us wishing we has booked the dinner as well!

Hotel Fuki no Mori is a 20-minute ride from JR Nagiso Train Station on the hotel’s free shuttle. Guests can enjoy walks at the garden or the scenic areas surrounding the hotel.

The staff were friendly and very helpful. There is a free shuttle service from Tsumago and Nagiso to the hotel which was very helpful. The onsen was a lovely experience aespecially after walking part of the Nakasendo trail. Such a great idea to swap the men and women’s over at midnight so you can experience a different view of the mountains. We particularly enjoyed the outdoor baths. The meal was incredible, delicious and beautifully presented. It was great to have such fresh, local cuisine and helpful that each course was explained .Breakfast was also delicious and had several courses although each one was reasonably small.To have it served in our own Japanese style room was lovely .

Guesthouse waku enjoys a location in Nagiso, 4.8 miles from Otsumago and 8.9 miles from Magome Observatory.

The best guest house I’ve ever stayed in! It felt straight out of a Studio Ghibli movie. I will remember it for many years to come. Kaho and Masa created a really beautiful, cozy space in this historic wooden countryside home. The living room was a real highlight - it was so pleasant to just sit there and listen to music playing in the background. The room had a Japanese style porch overlooking a luscious garden full of flowers, including hydrangeas, which were beautiful to watch in the morning rain. The hosts were incredibly friendly and warm - I felt welcome from the second I crossed the doorstep. They were so open and willing to engage, sharing their life stories and asking about mine. I also appreciated all the personal touches like the MUJI skincare products available in the shared bathroom and the ride that Masa gave me in his house to the train station because it was raining. Staying here is an experience that should be on your bucket list if you’re hiking the Nakasendo trail!

The view is amazing, and there are many floor-to-ceiling windows to show it off! The house is modern and feels newly built or renovated. The interior has a chic Japandi design, is almost entirely wood, and feels very comfortable. The garden in the backyard with a fountain, little stream, and dining table is a nice bonus. It was a great place to rest after a day hiking the Nakasendo trail, but I can also see it as an cozy mountain retreat for a weekend trip with friends. I highly recommend this property.

It was a wonderful oasis, seemingly like home but better. The host thought of minute details enhancing guest experience...like having the turn table to enjoy music with, the projector, the kitchen having stock of seasonings & oil on top of having complete kitchen & dining utensils, the tub, those relaxing handsoap and bath essentials. Wonderful!

Anju was the best host ever! We have traveled pretty extensively and I cannot say enough about our stay at this spotlessly clean, traditional Japanese home! Communications were answered properly and they even made dinner reservations for us to a wonderful local restaurant. Nagiso was a wonderful place to start our hike on the Nakasendo way!!
