Melfi was not on our initial itinerary in Basilicata. However, two factors made our visit an unforgettable one: the first was the rock church of St. Margherita and the second, our stay at the Lo Stemma guest house. George Umbrino was the most responsive, accommodating and caring host we interacted with in the region. The apartment is in a nicely renovated 16th century house in the old town, a few steps from the cathedral and the bishop's palace. George met us in person, helped us to settle, recommended places to have dinner, and helped us to arrange the visit to the rock church. Strongly recommend him and his place to everybody who is interested in visiting Melfi.
