Homestays in Cologne

I don't understand the bitching of some people about this place. It is perfect and incredibly good value. We were in the triple room and everything was great. The staff was really welcoming and made sure we always had everything in order like toilet paper, clean towels, etc. The shower was amazing, too. The S-Bahn is right around the corner and you can easily walk to the altstadt. Maybe the people who left a bad review were expecting Buckingham Palace, but for us, this place was excellent. Would stay again a million times.

The hotel was probably new because everything was very clean and fresh. There is a kitchen, washing machine and dryer with all the amenities. There are a lot of toilets and showers, like in public swimming pools. I assume I got lucky; there weren't many guests so the area was pretty quiet. The bonus is the surroundings. The hotel is located near the woods, so if you like a walk in nature, it's a perfect place. The check-in is easy, and the owner is responsive. They let me check in earlier. During my stay, there was a problem with the heating in my room, so they sent a technician to fix it right away. I would have stayed for one more week, but there wasn't an option for a single room.

The room itself is well managed and suitable for work, with a desk, sofa, bed, cupboards, good lighting, and useful extras like a printer, speakers, and a monitor. It also has a balcony, which would be enjoyable during the summer. However, the bathroom and kitchen are shared and located outside the room (the kitchen is one floor down), which I found uncomfortable. Given the high price, the shared facilities reduce the value significantly. Not suitable for families or couples, and there is nothing particularly special to justify the “penthouse” label.

The location was good and the room was very comfortable and clean. We had a very good night. Very good bed and no signs of dirt in the room, a very quiet place as well with no disturbance. Everything you need is in the room and in the kitchen (kitchen is a little unclean but no problem for me). Also the bathroom was very well in check.

The host was absolutely friendly, and communication with him was excellent. The room and the apartment were spotlessly clean, and we had everything we needed. If we required anything else, it was incredibly easy to just ask him. The location was very convenient, with plenty of parking spaces available. While it’s not directly in the city center, it’s still very easy to explore the city. Walking is an option, but there are also trains and buses nearby, making it simple to get around. The apartment itself is incredibly quiet, offering a great place to rest and recharge. Every morning, we enjoyed freshly brewed coffee and tea, which was a lovely touch. The highlight of our stay, however, was the host himself. He was so willing to help, chat with us, and share insights about what’s happening in the city. He even joined us for a beer and showed us some great spots in Cologne at night. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience!
