The hosts were very friendly and helpful. A good continental breakfast. The peaceful location.

As it was still a bit cool in the mornings in June, breakfast was in the parlor with a view of the flowering plants and beautiful grounds. Fruit, breads, croissant, yogurt, jam and granola toppings, and orange juice were delicious. Cooked-to-order eggs were well prepared and tasty. Cappuccino was rich and a second cup offered. Our room is similar to the way we remembered it 40 years ago when we happened upon Chateau Montplaisir and stayed one night in 1984. This time we were happy to stay 2 nights and were the only guests in the early part of the week. The bathroom had been updated when the current owners purchased it in 2015. Both our room and bathroom were spacious and clean. Since it was chilly we didn’t use the pool but it would be relaxing to jump in and sit by the pool when warmer. Evaginia was a gracious host and Ben gave us a personal tour of his winery. He is an artisan and takes pride in the quality of the wine produced from his own vineyards surrounding the stately manor built in 1690! As you travel through the Provence region of France, I would highly recommend a side trip to Chateau de Montplaisir. You will need a car as Valreas is a small town not easily reached by public transport. Nyon to the west (olive museum) and towns to the east including Viviers on the Rhône River are interesting day trips. If coming from the south Chateauneuf-du-Pape has wineries to visit and taste. We enjoyed the wine museum at the Brotte Family winery on our drive.

Medieval style with all the amenities you could ask for. the best was the food made by the owners.
