HOLIDAYS IN SERFAUS Discover holidays in Tyrol - Serfaus! Serfaus, with 1,100 inhabitants, is situated on the sunny terrace of the Upper Court, charmingly endowed by nature. This is the name of the uppermost Inn valley from Landeck to the Reschen Pass. The pollen analysis of Komperdell revealed that planned pasture farming was already practised on Komperdell about 4,000 years ago. Some pre-Roman field names still remind us of the early settlers, and Celtic traces can also still be found in Serfaus. The Romans conquered this area in 15 BC. Ancient historians refer to the Alpine inhabitants of this area as Raetians. The Raetians and Romans mixed over the course of the centuries, and the Rhaeto-Romans came into being. The Rhaeto-Romanic language, as it is still spoken in Graubünden, has survived to this day in many place, hamlet and field names. From the 6th century onwards, German-speaking Bavarians settled here, and from about 1350 onwards, isolated Welsh people also settled here. By about 1200, the German language had gradually replaced the Rhaeto-Romanic language.
